But the fact that they bought it with the plan to use sub-domains (rap.genius.com, rock.genius, Shakespeare.genius, grocery.genius, whatever else.genius) means that they thought this well ahead.

Subdomains (you buy a domain name and then add the appendage to the front, hence rap.genius) don't do well as far as search engine optimization goes.

edit: not to mention the fact that they pissed Google off this year.

CPM advertizing means that when they branch out into all the possible annotation possibilities (bible.genius, recipe.genius, porn.genius, drug.genius, etc.genus etc etc) they're gonna be rich as shyt.
