Earlier this week, his mother, Jamie King, cited the virus as the reason he has not yet been released from prison. While Melly's mother didn't offer up an explicit reason for why she thought he would be coming home, she intermittently suggested that the rapper could be out from behind bars soon throughout all of last year.

The rapper scored a massive hit with his single “Murder On My Mind,” which is also a song at the center of his pending murder trial. Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons and released the Juice Wrld-assisted "Suicidal (Remix)" last month, is facing life in prison for the shooting deaths of YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser. Melly is accused of shooting and killing both men in a vehicle then staging the scene to look like a drive-by with the help of his friend, YNW Bortlen (Cortlen Henry) was also arrested and charged with murder.
The rapper's mother had previously hinted that Melly would be released in 2020 when she took to Instagram at the end of 2019. YNW Melly's mum Jamie King shared a picture of Melly and fellow rapper YNW Bortlen from jail alongside the caption 'The wait is almost over #Freedaguys No weapon formed against you shall prosper #HeavenSent #Myheartbeats #2020takeover'.
At press time, Melly has yet to post bond for the case, one which will see him face the death penalty if he's convicted on the charges.
Last month, Melly's ex-lawyer Bradford Cohen said he thought Melly would be found not guilty of the crimes he's accused of committing in this case. He cited a belief that the evidence against Melly was weak as a reason he would eventually be released from lockup in Broward County Jail.
