Rapsody signs to Roc Nation, good move?

Jay Z’s Roc Nation roster apparently has some new talent: North Carolina wordsmith Rapsody.

The 9th Wonder protege announced the partnership on Saturday while on stage at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival.

“I’m Jamla/Roc Nation,” she said.

She further confirmed the deal with a post on her Instagram, where she is wearing a Roc Nation cap and holding up the iconic Roc-A-Fella dynasty sign with her hands. “Welcome to JamRoc. #Jamla #Rocnation,” the caption reads.

More people will be exposed to her now. She deserves to be heard. She's gotten a few more looks lately, but this helps her broaden her following. It's not like she's leaving 9th behind, but she's getting more push behind her career.

Looking at what they've done with Cole, sure it's a great signing. However I don't think there's anywhere she could have gone that would have worked. The state of black women in music right now is pretty bleak (unless you're a pre-established act like Rihanna and Beyonce). How many prominent black female artist have debuted in the last 5 years other than Nicki Minaj? There's been a couple that have had one off single success but even that number isn't as high as it should be when you compare it to the number of male one hit wonders there have been.
