Toronto
"The Toronto Raptors have been fined a reported $25,000 by the NBA over Drake's comments about Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant at a Toronto concert last weekend. The team's global ambassador acknowledged the league's reigning MVP in the crowd and asked the five-time All-Star to consider Toronto as a free agent destination next summer.

"My brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us," Drake said to his audience. "I just want him to see what would happen if he were to come play in Toronto."

The crowd responded to his remarks with a "KD" chant.

Durant, 25, is set to become a free agent following the 2014-15 NBA season.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the league viewed Drake's remarks as a violation of the league's anti-tampering rules.

Durant was among a number of athlete guests at Drake's annual OVO Festival at Toronto's Molson Amphitheatre last Monday, including Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James, Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Jose Reyes and Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays."

That's lame. Dude was just in the crowd and drake just got the crowd to acknowledge him to show what kind of support they have in T Dot? How is that a violation of anything?

I think because he has something to do with the organization. He gets money from them as a brand ambassador or something, so technically he's an employee and has a vested interest in the organization. If he had no ties to the team (receiving money and a face of the team), they wouldn't have been fined.

I'd like to know why Jay Z has never been hit with one of these tampering fines

As much of a dikk rider Jay is, he's never done anything like this or make blatant remarks... Not going to say he's smarter, but dude knows his business, lol

"Two years ago, the Cavaliers heard Jay-Z’s public position on LeBron’s future and could only imagine what might be said in private. When asked about the possibility of him someday joining the franchise, the Nets’ part-owner paid no mind to league tampering rules and gushed, “How amazing would that be? I tell people all the time, he's my friend first. If Cleveland is building a championship team around him then my advice is to stay there. If it’s the Nets who are building a championship team that could be around him then my advice is to come to the Nets.”

Haha. i forgot about that.

Wasn't he fined because of his sports agency though, and at the time he wasn't with the Nets... If not, shyts a crazy rule, and I continue to truthfully hate the NCAA.. I can't wait till they have to start paying athletes, but that's a separate discussion....:jawalrus:
