6/10, Imo It's better than One Piece not counting the current Yonko/Imperial Down Arc.
It has its flaws, but the pacing/arc transitioning is fine for a shonen. Oda spending 5-10 chapters talking about trees on island, straight filler. Mashima gets straight to the point.

I was like 15 when I started reading Fairy Tail so tastes were definitely way different back then. If a manga/anime had action, magic and big tittie bytches, it was my shyt. Fairy Tail had all three, so...
With that being said, while I did enjoy the manga for what it was, the anime was trash. shyt was barely animated and full of still-frames. The art style in the anime looked more generic (but had less similarities to One Piece). The anime also went too hard on the censorship and caused some scenes to lack impact. And don’t get me started on those disgusting magic circles used during fights
From a narrative standpoint, for a generic run of the mill battle shounen... if we’re being generous, everything up till the end of tenrou island was at least serviceable. But I found it hard to care about what happened after the dumb time skip (Laxus solo’ing Raven tail was pretty badass tho). I forgot where I ended up dropping the series altogether, both manga and anime. But I know it had something to do with a princess with green hair or some shyt.
Anyway 5/10 is the highest I can give Fairy Tail. It’s not offensively bad, but it’s not anywhere close to being a quality anime or even battle shounen. It’s like the McDonald’s of anime. Even though I grew up reading/watching it I’d never recommend it to anyone when there are so many better shows out there.

People say bad animation in popular anime is due to it staying true to manga and bloated content (250+ episodes).
While franchises like SOA and Fate have light novel source material, which allows leeway for better animation and more compact content.
Honestly tho in 2020 everything coming out should be crisp as fukk and filler should be ridiculed more. The animation doesn't have to be eye candy CGI, but there should be a bar now.
3. Quite possible the worst shonen I’ve ever seen. Only reason I didn’t go lower is because I can’t really justify it. See, the manga is okay at best with decent art and fight scenes but the anime was shyt-tier. Nothing good translated to it.
There are other popular anime I dislike but don’t go out of my way to shyt on because we all have our opinions but this one is genuinely bad, and you’d be wasting time buying into it.
TLDR: Terrible. Read the manga instead if you must. Recommend reading Rave Master if you’re looking for something similar.
