been ages since I've seen this. Remember it being versatile. On one hand it's hilarious because you watch a guy with zero life experience outside of the military struggle to adjust himself to a civilian school life environment. At one point he really thought a lunch box was a bomb and freaked out
Someone challenges him to a fight and he pulls out a gun
tries to solve every single problem like its a high alert crisis and it never works out for him. A lot of ageless clips were produced from the middle series FMP fumoffu
on the other hand it's a legit military drama with lots of high stake missions, a team with great synergy in Kurtz/Sagara/Mao. They had each others backs even off the battlefield. A lot the characters are actual professionals who have responsibilities/jobs and do them well. Villains were cutthroat, convincing. Battles could be in submarines, on the ground or in mechs. I remember the 2nd Raid taking a darker twist with Sagara developing PTSD and the action being more gruesome than before.
and then it has a romantic subplot between Sagara and Kaname. They have sort of a pact to help each other out in life. He gives protection, she shows him how to live like a ordinary teenager. He slowly figures out how to detach himself away from war through their shared experiences.
In all I'm giving it a 8. If I watched it again I'm pretty sure it'd be a 9. Sagara was my favorite anime character for a long time.
music wise I remember the OP's being good.
