Spent a couple days there like 4 or 5 years ago. Not much worth noting, nice areas around the river, cute central area, but didn't really give me the feel of a place I would want to go back to/spent more time. Nothing really bad per se, but nothing that really hit me as noteworthy either. Food and accomodation were cheap though.

How did the locals treat you and is Germany really as diverse as people say it is?

Last time I was there I was literally at this Drake concert with some old coworkers of mine:

I'm not a huge Drake fan but a bunch of them wanted to go and the tickets were cheap and it was somewhere to go after a long day of work training. :yeshrug: Dude put on a good show.

Anyway, I been there prior and I liked what I saw and experienced. The people were cool, the food was good quality (definitely better than England) and I remember it being very clean. I saw quite a few black folks and even got the number of this black German chick but lost it when my phone later got damaged. :mjcry:

I was only there for like five days each time and didn't see a huge amount of the city, but I'd go back. I was there in the winter each time but I heard summer is live.

I should specify I was only there for like 4 days and was visiting someone, so it wasn't my usual "walking around and discovering on my own" kind of trip.

People were alright, but I was with a German mixed girl so she did the talking. Didn't really notice anything more than people surprised at not only seeing one, but two mixed people. But nothing aggressive or anything, whether it be in bars, restaurants, etc.

Berlin is where it's diverse, Frankfurt def wasn't that diverse, outside of Turks but even they weren't that heavy. There was this small african festival a little outside the city one day, and there were more Black people there obviously but not that much tbh. In most euro countries I think it's really like a couple cities where you see the diversity. Like in France probably half of the country's diversity is in and around Paris, it's probably the same in Germany with Berlin.

Frankfurt was nice. I did a boat and bus tour and went to the best vegan restaurant we've ever been to (Vevay). The people were respectful and I didn't feel out of place or not welcome at all. I'll probably live in Germany for a couple months out of the year in the future. Plus, in the summer time, it doesn't get dark until damn near 10 pm. Great experience and I will go back, 8/10

Looks nice. With a metro population of 5 million it should be poppin' in terms of nightlife. Not really interested in German culture. The food is :hhh:.

Frankfurt is one of the better cities in Germany for brehs (along with Berlin and some parts of the south).

All in all you can get by in Frankfurt without too many hassles and employers seem to look more at what you have done and can do rather than your color. It's not at all like that in other parts of Germany like the east and the West / North proper. The banking industry (which is a mainstay of the Frankfurt economy) is not doing so well. Back in the day you had three large healthy German banks (Commerz, Dresdner and Deutsche) and some other biggish ones like Hypovereinsbank. Now you sort of have one healthy one (Commerz) and they don't hire as much locally or pay as much as they used to. On the economic front anyone in IT / tech / automotive or manufacturing would generally have more opportunity further south.

There used to be a high number of US bases in the south of Germany and that contributed somewhat to the acceptance and recognition of professional brehs.

The girls in that area are also pretty open minded about dating brehs and are knowledgeable relative to the aforementioned bad areas in Germany. There is a good mix of women with more non-blanquito blanquito women with their own counter-culture than other parts of Germany. The non-blanquitos in Cologne, Dusseldorf, Dortmund and other Western cities are as likely to be as anti-breh, or even more so, than your average German. In Frankfurt there is a distinct counter-culture where brehs are the #1 choice. For better or for worse because it is typically media / hip-hop / sport focused. And again that differs from much of the rest of the country. Thank the US forces for paving the way.

The biggest problem you would have if you move there is housing as real estate prices have gone up massively over the last 10 years and there is a housing shortage.

Most people (and especially young people) speak some English and you do not have to speak German to get a professional job over there.
I lived in Frankfurt for around 6 years and I might be going back soon.

I agree with others on this thread that Berlin is probably overall a bit better but even though Frankfurt is smaller and offers less , it is a safer and cosier (brit.) proposition for those who prefer relatively quiet and stable above the hustle and bustle of big city life.

It is far from perfect and being in Germany you will face the occasional hostility and low-key "othering" no matter how long you live there but as Germany goes it is one of the best.

It's easy to travel in and our with Frankfurt airport located about 20 mins out of the city. If you get bored of Frankfurt then there are other cities closeby where army brehs have had a similar (but sometimes lesser) influence. For example: Wiesbaden, Darmstadt or even Kaiserlauten (which is a bit further away).

They have hip-hop and breh clubs dotted around. I am not sure if the Black Sounds club in Kaiserslauten is still there but this video shows what the US army dominated / influenced clubs in Germany tend to look like.

EDIT: I should add that Frankfurt cops are :trash:and customer service is :trash: .

I gave it a 7.
