Gave it a 6 when this thread opened and I'd been here for ~8 months. Been here for 3 years now and give it a 7, it's rising I my book...

Would still prefer Charlotte but this is a great city to be black in, as far as being black in America goes...

What made you choose to stay in Raleigh rather then Charlotte?

My kids are here. God willing, I'm not dying anytime soon, so it's nothing to sacrifice my desire to live elsewhere because it's more important I'm in the same place as my kids...

The city has really grown on me living here, though. It's a pretty city that local government and municipal services take care of. Black mobility and wealth is A1 here compared to most of the US. Pretty good diversity, and gorgeous women all over the place. One of the strongest public school systems of large cities in the nation, A1 education infrastructure, much less violent crime than in most cities, especially cities with large black populations....

I still feel like I'd like to settle somewhere else when that opportunity presents itself but I'm still 7-10 years out from that destination. I've long been comfortable with the realization I'm here for years and will enjoy my time here rather than pity myself or despise it. Don't wanna use the "L" word but Raleigh steadily growing on me, may be closer to 8 than 7...

5/10. Very average. Not a lot to do outside of sports. Great place to raise a family because of the steady economy. Weather is all over the place. Especially nowadays. Just a very boring place to live if you're in your 20s/30s or are single. Also, and I'd argue this is true for all of NC, this state doesn't really have a culture/personality. Nothing like Georgia (which has ATL), or Florida (which has Miami). And what I mean is...your mind goes somewhere whenever you think of the states that I listed. Your mind doesn't really go anywhere when you think of North Carolina. Its just a very generic southern state. I'm sure most people would think of South Carolina, or Virginia, before they thought of North Carolina.

Aight what changed?
I think I was intentional about learning and enjoying the city; when I first got here I was just complaining about what was wrong here and what I didn't like about it...

Raleigh has real personality that doesnt necessarily jump out at you, especially if you're from a larger city. I enjoy most things about the city. I wish it was a little more walkable and less car centric; I wish they had light rail; I wish it was a little more diverse; I wish it had its sports facilities downtown and had a few more A-list acts stop here...

But as is, its wonderful. A-list acts do stop here (Chris Brown's tour stops here in October), just not as many as in a bigger city. It does have some diversity and there are a few parts of the city you can go to, that are heavily diverse. They are about to begin, late this year, urbanizing the Blue Ridge area where our major arena and football stadium are at, and eventually link it better with the core of the city...

Solid jobs market here, which pays well. Beautiful women in abundance. Just a fantastic city for outdoor parks and rec. Solid retail and dining options, year round entertainment, there are always festivals and events going on here...

Have you visited here before? Where do you currently live?
