"The First Revolution Is When You Change Your Mind" - Gil Scott Heron
Context:
I'm sure all us of are familiar with Gil Scott Heron's "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" song and I'm sure most of us initially intepretated it on a surface deep sort of level.
"Yeah the revolution won't be televised cause we got to go outside and smash shyt up
"
and thus the song has become the anthem for riots and uprisings everywhere
But Heron had a different intentions; there was a line that was originally in the song
"The First Revolution Is When You Change Your Mind" that was removed from the song but was the original message of the song
I found this to be quite profound as people tend to view revolution as an external thing; rather than an internal thing - all Revolutions occur when you change your thought process
What are your thoughts brehs? Is Revolution just merely mindless protests which could be a critique of the BLM? Or is Revolution more about education and a change in the thought process of the people?
