sorry if there's a thread on this already ...

Do you people wear raw or selvedge jeans?

I need some new jeans. Most of mine are 7 for all mankind, but I have some luckys and banana republics mixed in for daily wear.

I've been looking at unbranded, gustin and other raw denim brands. But I don't want to spend months breaking them in. Also, I'd prefer to keep them dark -- not interested in custom fades.

Are you people on this wave? I'm not. I can't decide whether to get some raw denim ... or just buy a couple pairs of super dark 7's and call it a day.

Not really. If I found some decent ones for 100, I guess I'd buy more of them. If they are 200+, I'd probably just get one pair.

Edit -- the 7's I would buy are probably $178 ... so I guess that's about what I'll spend.

hmmm....

japanese stuff, youre looking at 300+

I'm not sure about unbranded...but I can vouch for the japanese brands. A good site for americans is blueowl.us as well as selfedge.com

youll find a good selection of american (3sixteen, rogue territory) and japanese (momotaro, flathead, pure blue japan) brands

The latest pair i copped was the momotaro 0705sp and I'm in love with them. If you dont want indigo jeans that will fade though itll be harder to find. Typically youll have to look for "rinsed" stuff i think.

thanks again, man.

One more question - how long do these things to break in?

Like I said, I'm used to sevens, and they are sooooo soft right away. Do I want to spend weeks/months breaking the starch on some raw denim jeans? Or does it not take that long?

if the jeans say sanforized they will already have the starch gone. should take long to beak in.
my current pair was kinda tight in the thighs and still are but nonetheless id say they took maybe one month MAX to break in

APC is solid New cure or new standard APC can be had for around 150-170

Japanese which has the heavy thick denim usually 21oz > is by far the best but it pushes $300 and can be uncomfortable in the summer depending where you live. Ive have Samuari S5000Vx which looked great and got compliments but summer time outdoor functions can be :whew:

AG makes a pretty good pair of selvage jeans with a pinch of stretch. might be something to consider for 'dipping your toes' into the raw denim water.

Thanks man. I'll take a look ... but I think I'm probably just going to buy pairs of dark, non-raw, american made 7's. I might change my mind again. This whole thing seems like a lot of work.

Also, you get rep for your user name. I saw The Jesus Lizard in a tiny room in the mid 90s ... dude was insane.

I heard the Momotaro fit like Levis? Is this true?

havent worn levis in like 7 years so i cant say. Mine are a straight but slim fit so theyre tight in the thighs. I would say to look at the size charts.

what kinda fit do you like

Straight slim or regular. What would be the Momotaro equivalent to those fits?

anyway, gents, I basically pussed out.

I picked up a pair of 7's tonight. they're super dark, not raw, and super soft. I guess they'll fade, but slowly, which is what i'd prefer.

I just don't know if I'm bout the breaking in jeans life.

Anyway, I may grab a pair of the raw denim jeans from the gap. Tiny investment, and then I'll know if breaking them in is a pain in the ass.
