Ray Daniels claims J. Cole is a solid rapper but not an exceptional one, and his prominence largely stems from his effective branding.

that goes for him, kendrick AND drake, but none of their fanbase wants to hear this. This era is so fukking trash that dudes who sing in autotune are considered rappers. It's really that easy to be great as a rapper in an era of non rappers. It's the Dwight Howard effect in how he was the best center in the league for years when there were literally no other good centers in their prime. J Cole is literally a mainstream version of J Live. A dope rapper with dope albums, but nothing he does makes him an all time great. He's just very good at what he does. The thing is that J Cole has a machine behind him. And the machine can convince people that guys like NBA youngboy are great.

Cole is talented, but he's definitely a product of coming up at the end of the blog era pushing. Lyrically he was always nice but overrated/lazy (has tremendously improved to this date technically, and now worth his acclaim). Artistically, he's always been veeeeery overrated but has multiple classic songs (imo) from that 2009-2015 era. Revenge of the Dreamers 3 arguably the best project he's been associated with besides 4YEO imo. He simply doesn't make captivating enough music to replay in full doses like that.

Edit: Cole might be the biggest beneficiary of the hood but conscious lane ever lol s*** has gassed him

Who is Ray Daniels?

And please don't answer "big executive responsible for hits" like his website says or "LA Reids assistant", in what way is he responsible for these hits? Who has he worked with or represented?

It seems as if he was just one of very many A&Rs at Epic, but he talks like he was the CEO of Universal Music Group :patrice:

The drug rap era killed a lot of what yall are talking about. Either its about conspiracies and pyramids or moving packs.

Theres no real plan for a non-street rapper so unless you’re some mysterious dude you gotta make it work. Cole just had to make a way.

At least Wale figured it out for the most part. He’s like a suburban Fab.
