"Do they realize there is levels to this shyt.." PUN intended

2 weeks ago I watched Wale campaign for fans to stop over looking the music being released today by he and his peers. He stated that we the fans are undervaluing the music being dropped today because we're still stuck on the Nas' Jay-zs' and Scarfaces' from Hip hops past.

Well I just gave J.Cole's sophomore album a full listen and while its solid its nothing groundbreaking. When I listened to Only Built For Cuban Linx the first time I knew it was special.

Wale, your first two albums are solid. The second is arguably better but its nothing groundbreaking. Better yet, game changing. The albums drop and have little to know impact on the genre or the world.

These artists better study history and be careful what they say out of their mouths. Jadakiss, Cassidy, Fabolous had next at one point and were given opportunity after opportunity to drop game changing projects and didn't.

Stop campaigning that your great and BE great

Lupe dropped Food & Liquor and the music spoke for itself
Game dropped The Documentary and the music spoke for itself
Wayne dropped the carter and the music spoke for itself
Kanye dropped college dropout and the music spoke for itself
Jeezy dropped 101 and let the music speak for itself
Ross dropped Deeper Than Rap and let the music speak for itself
Kendrick Lamar dropped Good Kid, Madd City and let the music speak for itself

Just drop your albums and shut the fukk up..

Nas, Jay Z, Tupac, Scarface, Wu Tang, weren't coming out campaigning to be great. They got in the studio and got busy and dropped their projects.

You nikkas run the risk of being in that Cassidy, Fabolous, Jadakiss class of stuck in limbo.. identity crisis.. album 4 mode

Kendrick got that College Dropout hype on his debut. In fact, his major label album received more critical acclaim than all Kanye albums except MBDTF.

Not to mention Kanye himself came in long after the 90's greats.

Just proving it is possible to get into that classic/legend debate as a new dude.

Did you see Wale's Power 105 interview 2 weeks ago? He's almost begging for fans to praise his music or at least appreciate it like its a masterpiece

I have never heard Kendrick say such things. Kendrick doesn't come across like hes feeling himself.

Excuse me Wale :dahell: Attention Defecit, Ambition are OK albums. Stop throwing around Nas and Jay-Zs name like its Fat Trels

when rappers learn to market their shyt better instead of repeating the same process that was done 20 years ago, then they might be better embraced. rappers need to step their shyt up cuz music itself isnt selling these days. with all the mediums that are widely used today there should be no excuse. if they really want that star status, they need to expand their product beyond music and venture into media and take advantage of the technology we have. riff raff is a good example of this, while he may not put out the best music, he does put out other shyt to keep a buzz going. shyt, even c-styles doin shyt other than music.

The new generation is definitely different from the past. I dont know if I can even scrape the surface here, but Jay and Nas are definitely "father figures" to a lot of these dudes. There werent any "I let Kool G Rap down" or "I let Ice Cube down" records being made in the 90s. You would be ridiculed. You ought to be more focused on yourself, and solidifying a rep for yourself, then worrying about living up to some contemporary standard set by dudes who are like 15-20 years deep in this. There was a bit of Pac/Biggie faux-martyrdom going on in the late 90s but that made sense given how tragic that was.

Rappers arent growing up and living through the same experiences as many were in the 80s and 90s. Notice how its the Drakes, Coles and Big Sean types that are concerned with impressing their heroes and living out their "dreams". I aint mad, and Im glad that it means those kids didnt grow up poor on the street in crack-infested neighbourhoods. But its also extremely corny to me....just make your fukking music, seriously.

I get that they want to be taken seriously and respected, but making quality music year after year, album after album is how you get that respect. Not by acting butt-hurt cause Nas aint diggin your little pop record. "Aww Nas is his hero, he must really love this hip-hop shyt" :umad: You get no sympathy from us, just make good music

Jay and Nas often butt-heads with their superiors and now, after like 15-20 years, they have legendary status in the game

If your music is truly dope MORE than likely fans will receive and praise it for being dope.

Kendrick Lamar's album is an example of this. Of course this subjective and there are fans that probably despise GKMC but for the most part its seen as great creative debut album that has people highly anticipating the next project. :comeon:

Drake.... I don't really get into his music. The shyt isn't for me. But I will admit I've observed the impact his shyt has on hip hop. For better or for worse his music is praised by many and is a game changer. I don't hear Drake talking about I'm the next Nas, or my shyt should be the greatest.

HE JUST DROPS HIS MUSIC

In todays market of short attention spans be glad your on a follow up album. Most of you nikkas will be here today and gone next year.

Please miss me with that fukk shyt. Your on your second album lil nikka. Stop worrying so much about Nas on focus on making the second album better than the first one.

nikkas thinking their shyt is ill and not realizing they are coming across like broads

i agree, if its dope its dope. but for the artists complaining, there are other methods of capitalizing off your shyt to reach a broader audience. problem with wale is he isnt bringing anything new to the table. he sounds like old school wiz khalifa.

Everybody is right on this topic. My feeling is if you know your great, you don't have to promote one album or at one time saying how great you or your work is... Instead, they know they're good, and are not focused at one time for promotion, but are looking to build a legacy...... Legacys start really at the first album, Jay is like the only person i know that it took till like his 3/4 album to get that "Legend" reputation.... It seems like Wale knows that Ambition did not put him over, so he's really pushing for this album cause this might be his last chance before he becomes a good rapper, not legend category for years (i.e. Jadakiss, Fab etc

Yes, nikkas better wake up and recognize the bizarro world that exists in hip hop. There allot of talented artists stuck in outter space that never put it all together. Everybody can't be great

For every great artist

There is good to average artist who never got their shyt to the next level

Remember when Lloyd Baks was dissing Nas in 2004! Saying he was a better lyricist

Yeah, stop talking about being great and Nas and Jay and let us judge your music
