Where did this notion that you have to rebuild everytime you are stuck in neutral? (Hawks, Clippers, Raptors, etc). I hate when people act like rebuilding is the only scenario when you aren't close to winning a championship. to me, the key is luck, finding a team dumb enough to trade with you and knowing when to sell high. I'll give a few examples. How many teams have you seen successfully rebuild? i mean tearing it down completely and building it from the ground up. dont say Golden state because they sucked for years before finally getting it right .Even Utah had to wait 7 years before getting back to the playoffs.

1. Spurs- trade George hill for Kahwi
2. Blazers- trade Gerald Wallace for number 6 pick aka Damian Lillard
3. Celtics- got isaiah thomas for Marcus thornton and Cleveland's pick.
4. Miami- Whiteside was in the d-league and is now a franchise player.

Bulls are one of the teams that need to blow it up

Young players below average/marginal,no high picks,no history of ever getting a prime star fa,best player will be 28 next season and most importantly the bulls were barely a playoff team and aren't remotely close to a championship team.

OP listed 3 teams that are in the same boat as the three teams that folks say should "blow it up" and honestly the only reason no one puts the Spurs in that boat is because they are the Spurs. And the Celtics did tear it down by trading their core for a bunch of picks and that is why they have a legit shot at being the team that eventually dethrones Cleveland (if they don't waste them :francis:). NBA is the one sport where you can have the best scouting, the best player development etc. but if you don't have a transcendent talent you are gonna be "stuck in neutral". Only way to get those talents for most teams (all teams with the new CBA) is to draft them. Only way to get picks that high is to suck or sucker some loser or just get lucky as far as a trade goes.

Had some awful examples

Spurs were coming off a 60 win season when they traded for Kawhi. George Hill was their backup PG and wasn't going to be a starter for the foreseeable future.

The Blazers traded Gerald Wallace so they could start the younger & better player in Nic Batum

what about Golden state? I can't call that luck. they drafted well. I wouldn't call it luck that Draymond green fell to the second round.

No. But it is luck that David Lee got hurt and Draymond took his place and that is what made the warriors, the warriors...

Kerr has stated multiple times that he never once ever even thought about starting draymond over david lee, that draymond only played cause lee got hurt, and that draymond only kept the starting job cause the team kept winning, which damn near EVERY sports team is going to do in that situation...

Cowboys tossed the best statistical qb IN FRANCHISE HISTORY in the bushes because a 4th round pick won 13 out of 16 games...

Golden State prior to this run had 1 playoff appearance in 20 years. They lucked up in finding a better owner for their team. They lucked up in having Curry fall to them at 7. They lucked up in taking a chance on TWO head coaches with no prior coaching experience. They also made their luck in being able to eye talent elsewhere... and even THEY thought tanking was a good idea when it came to keeping their pick in 2012 to draft Barnes. Being lucky matters. Hell Dan Gilbert is lucky LeBron wanted anything to do with his ass.

What teams like Philly try to do is make their luck from the ground up, deal their own hand. Once you've plateaued, your hand isn't gonna get better. A team like the Clippers has reached their ceiling. You could try to keep it going but they'll run out of dumb execs to fleece and in fact, might wind up being that dumb ass exec because those teams will do anything to keep a ship afloat with a hole in it.

Curry - 7th
Klay - 11th
Barnes - 7th

What about them? They had 3 lottery picks among their core players, then used the caproom they had from guys being on rookie deals to sign Iguodala.

And signed and traded for Lee.

If anything, teams like the Nets and Knicks are in the situations they're in because they REALLY didn't believe in blowing it up

The NBA just needs to make a bigger deal out Division championships and Pennant races so fans and teams feel better about winning regular season games but not winning championships

A team with a consistent winning record shouldn't be shytted so hard
