This movie was the debut of writer director riann johnson. He also made Looper and worked on some of the best episodes of Breaking Bad. It was also the movie where Joseph Gordon Levitt had his coming out party as one of the most promising actors today. Its a very unique movie. Its a classic noir story set against a modern high school back drop.

Another noir style film. If you love guy ritchie/david fincher films you should love this movie. Dont read up on it or watch the trailer movie is best seen knowing nothing going in. Kilmer and d'onfrio give great performances.

Just mentioned it in the Locke thread but Bronson is pretty damn great. It's by Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn and it was Tom Hardy's break-out role. It tells the story of Britain's most insane inmate in a style very reminiscent of A Clockwork Orange. It's violent, crazy and absolutely awesome.

Hard Candy, a "psychological thriller" starring Patrick Wilson as a lonely, 30-something photographer and Ellen Page as the intelligent but troubled 14 year old girl he meets online. The two of them give amazing performances and it's a very tense film.

*the trailer is very misleading in terms of the tone

The film is noted for its cinematography and is interspersed with numerous images of Australian plant and animal life, along with its varied landscapes. The director often uses those images to emphasise events in the plot and set the emotional tone, most notably during the violent scene involving the rifle hunters. Though many of the events are improbable in a natural setting—in one scene a wombat wanders past the sleeping children in the middle of a desert—they create a backdrop of a populous, varied environment.

Was going to go with this for the Film Club this week but decided to go with something a bit lighter.
