I just finished watching Gurren lagann and I want a mecha anime to follow it up with. Any suggestions? Please no Gundam I'm up to date on that.

Depends on what you like but if you want fukkery check Code Geas which is a classic aand Vandread which was cool. Also the new Gundam series Iron Blooded Orphans is pretty dope also in pace to being one of the better series, I also like Gundam Seed where you will meet the Gawd Mecha pilot.
I know you say no gundam but have you watched Gundam Unicorn OVA and since you like Basquash, I think you'll like gundam build fighter is pretty nice.
