I respected it completely…i knew it wouldn’t fly in hip hop though where everyone is permanently 17 years old and loves drama/negative shh… I can understand nigs just wanting to hear the lyrical fade tho, I fux with that…Cole heart wasn’t in it tho clearly. Salute to Cole…he righted his wrong by 86’ing that lil joint he dropped when he realized he didn’t really want the issue.
I think Kendrick woulda kicked his ass too just being objective…I like Cole most out of all 3 as an MC but I think Kendrick was just in a Thanos-esque zone and jonesing to annihilate nigs

If he chose not to respond to Kendrick and didn't release that song I wouldn't have cared. I didn't think Cole or Drake should've taken the bait. I would've advised them to drop a line or two addressing it but wait for him to initiate a battle. Cole choose to start the battle and then walked it back. If you're going to change your mind that fast what was the point of recording and releasing the dis? He should have sat with the song and made sure he was okay with the next step. Things get messy in battles so if you can't deal with that don't drop a dis track. It looked like he wasn't confident in his pen which is crazy considering he's been daring rappers to try him for years.

To me, it's not even the apology itself or him regretting the diss track. It's the timing that really made it hard for people to respect. If Cole had tried releasing a few tracks, given Kendrick the opportunity to respond, and then decided that wasn't the right move months later, I don't think anyone would have a problem with that. At least he would have engaged with Kendrick on some level and nobody could say that he didn't try.
But it's the fact that he apologized two days after releasing the track. People were just starting to get excited about the possibility of Cole entering the war. And then nothing happened. They were hoping Cole would be the one to take Kendrick out, then he decided it wasn't for him. Maybe that conversation with Schoolboy Q really happened, I don't know, but I know a lot of people wanted to see Kendrick get taken down a peg and they knew Drake wasn't the one to do it. When Cole backed out, people lost their champion and that's why they'll never forgive him.

Kendrick DEFINITELY started the battle. Thats part of the reason why I find it so crazy that Cole ever felt HE was in the wrong for replying. As soon as Kendrick said “Muthafukk the big three/Its just big ME!” Thats throwing down the gauntlet. Thats BATTLE rap! Cole absolutely had the right to respond in any way (verbally) he saw fit. Yes the rest of the verse was aired squarely at Drake but Kendrick had already expressed that he thought little of both of them skill-wise.
Cole in my opinion apologized for nothing. Its not like Kendrick had any kind words for him afterwards, you won’t be seeing those two on a song together or even in the same room any time soon. I get trying to be neutral, but there’s no neutrality when when nikkas go to war for the crown and Cole put HIMSELF right there in the competition. He should’ve competed or just kept his mouth closed for the entirety.
