Reform UK would stop visas for people from countries seeking slavery reparations

04/07/26
Reform UK would stop issuing visas to people from any country that continues to demand compensation from the UK for its role in the transatlantic trade in enslaved people, the party has said.

Zia Yusuf, the party’s home affairs spokesperson, told the Daily Telegraph that the call for reparations was “insulting”.

He claimed 3.8m visas had been issued over the last two decades to people from countries calling for reparations.

For four centuries, seven European countries, including the UK, enslaved and trafficked more than 15 million Africans across the Atlantic. Historians have linked wealth from enslavement to mass industrialisation in the west.

Last month, the UN voted to describe the transatlantic slave trade as the “gravest crime against humanity” and called for reparations as “a concrete step towards remedying historical wrongs”.

The landmark resolution was backed by the African Union and the Caribbean Community (Caricom). It had been proposed by Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, who said: “Let it be recorded that when history beckoned, we did what was right for the memory of millions who suffered the indignity of slavery.”

The UK and members of the EU abstained from the vote, while the US voted against the resolution, which was not legally binding.

Yusuf told the Telegraph: “A growing number of countries are demanding reparations from Britain. These countries ignore the fact that Britain made huge sacrifices to be the first major power to outlaw slavery and enforce this prohibition.”

He said the “bank is closed and the door is locked” for anyone who wanted to “use history as a weapon to drain our treasury”.

“The United Kingdom is not an ATM for ethnic grievances of the past, and we will no longer tolerate being ridiculed on the world stage,” he continued. “While countries like Jamaica, Nigeria and Ghana ramp up their demands for reparations, the Westminster establishment has rewarded them. Enough is enough.”

Reform UK has previously pledged to scrap international aid for countries demanding reparations.

In 2023, a report on reparations for the transatlantic slave trade, written and compiled by Patrick Robinson, a former judge of the International Court of Justice, concluded the UK alone should pay $24tn (£18.8tn) as reparations for transatlantic slavery in 14 countries.

Last year the Caricom Reparations Commission (CRC), which was set up to progress the Caribbean’s pursuit of justice for centuries of enslavement and colonisation by European countries, addressed misleading press reports that suggested the commission’s aim was to “break the British Treasury” by demanding trillions of pounds.

The CRC’s chair, Prof Sir Hilary Beckles, speaking at a lecture in London during its first official visit to the UK, said the commission’s ultimate aim was for the UK and its former colonies to identify mutual strategies for a mutually beneficial restorative justice programme.

“Every week, we open the newspapers and we hear the most terrible things about these reparations people from the Caribbean. Some have said that we have come here to break the British Treasury by demanding millions and billions and billions of pounds. And they have consistently tried to discredit what is an ongoing moral and ethical argument for justice, the right to justice,” he said during the lecture.

The reason the king shyts on golden toilet is because of the transatlantic slave trade.

That family didn't invent or create a single damn thing worth a damn.

Kiss my ass with them not not owing them countries anything.

You'd think the son of Sri Lankan immigrants whose country was controlled by the British for over 100 years would be a little sympathetic to what their country and others suffered under their former colonizer. They literally ruled 3/4 of the world off free labor for HUNDREDS OF YEARS.

And then when they granted independence to those countries made them use their currencies and didn't pay a dime back.

Rubber, oil, diamonds, coffee, sugar, you name it. All these industrial companies that had their backs built and made people inherently rich for generations

Fukk this guy

That party is running a media campaign to heighten opposition from the general public. The same thing happened in this country a generation ago when the late Randal Robinson was the driving force for reparations.

Same playbook, different plays called, some of the same language, and they even had individuals from the same ethnic group as Robinson publicly outfront making counter arguments.

Yusuf being the public face on this issue for that party helps them sell it to the white voters better. The implicit part of their pitch is the very thing that you brought up. The slave trade fueled UK's conquest of the world. A child of one of those former colonies out front making the argument against reparations is the ideal pitchman.

In my younger days, I used to online debate white Brits who tried to push some of the points Yusef brings up here, namely the "we ended the slave trade" line. I said you pat yourself on the back for "ending the slave trade" , while your leaders were simultaneously waging a neoslavery/colonization campaign around the globe. 6 in one hand and half a dozen in the other.

Sri Lanka to pursue reparations for colonial-era losses: foreign minister

The government is moving ahead with efforts to seek compensation for colonial-era losses and the return of looted cultural treasures, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath told Parliament, in response to a proposal raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

‎Minister said the process of pursuing compensation for damage to property, theft and loss of life linked to the colonial period is currently underway. He said Sri Lanka is also continuing efforts to recover cultural artefacts taken from the country during colonial rule.

‎Addressing Parliament, the foreign minister said both the Portuguese and Dutch governments have accepted Sri Lanka’s requests for the restitution of looted cultural artefacts. He said some of the artefacts have already been returned, while the remainder are expected to be handed over in due course.

‎Vijitha Herath said the government also intends to pursue additional reparations through economic channels in the future, stressing the importance of addressing unresolved colonial-era grievances.

‎His remarks came after Sajith Premadasa urged Sri Lanka to follow the example of African nations that are pressing former colonial powers for reparations.

‎Responding to the query, Herath referred to a 2005 proposal to mark 500 years since Portuguese colonization, which had been put forward by the Portuguese ambassador and accepted by then-Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Vijitha Herath said that as minister of cultural affairs at the time, he rejected the proposal and instead demanded reparations for looted artefacts, loss of life and confiscated property.

‎He said the Portuguese government accepted those demands and that the Netherlands later also agreed to return artefacts taken during the colonial period, with some already repatriated on two occasions and the remainder expected to be returned. (NewsWire)

Who in the fukk wants to travel to the UK anyway. :mjlol::camby:
Huh? The UK has a big tourism industry (especially London). Over 40 million people visit the UK annually.

Obviously, this policy by the Reform Party is racist though. The Reform Party is just racist in general.

Nigel Farage along with his Reform UK party is losing popularity. Even other racists see thm as a bunch of clowns. So what does Reform do? They have to use us as a crutch. It's always the case - when you're not hot anymore, throw out the old "bbbbut it's those blacks" tactic as a distraction and use some ethnic sellout to trope out their message.

There's many white brits even telling him to fukk off and making it clear he ain't one of them and never will be.

This is why I wish half the leaders of Caribbean and African nations had Ibrahim Traore's bravery and pride, because all the white potential "expats" would be blocked from living in our countries too as well as blocking the extraction of resources from OUR countries. You don't want us coming to your lands? Cool. It now goes both ways. You ain't gonna have your cake and eat it.

BTW - I'm willing to be this wouldn't apply to those island born cacs who are descendants of slave traders ie white Bajans.

Huh? The UK has a big tourism industry (especially London). Over 40 million people visit the UK annually.

:mjlol:

And the UK is also in a major tourism decline (38.5 million visitors in 2025) & that "over 40 million" number you're touting/quoting are from 2019 & 2024, which are the only 2 years the UK has ever been at/over 40 million tourists.

Moreover, the 42.5 million tourists that visited UK in 2024 is the highest it's ever been in the UK's history. :pachaha:

So while the rest of Europe is experiencing a significant travel boom, the UK is barely treading water.

UK ‘starting to lose competitive position’ as tourist destination

"The UK is starting to lose its competitive position internationally as a visitor destination, both globally and against some major western European rivals, according to long term forecasting.

Domestic overnight trips in England down 8% year on year also demonstrate the “ongoing operational challenges and cost of living impacts” faced by the industry.

The cautionary message came from VisitBritain/VisitEngland ahead of an annual review event for industry leaders in London today (Tuesday).

VisitBritain’s annual review comes as its just published inbound tourism forecast estimates £34.6 billion would be spent by international visitors in the UK this year, up 6% on 2024. A total of 44.3 million visits are forecast, a rise of 4% on last year.

Figures released by the tourism body show that overseas tourists spent an additional £562 million in the 2024-25 financial year, with 60% of this going to destinations outside London."

This isn't our fight :hubie:
Those countries need to take it up with the United Nations if they have a problem with it.
