American history is a funny thing...5 years ago Bush was the most hated man in the world and Republicans would never be elected to higher office again. Now history is softening it's harsh stance on Bush, and Obama is slowly but surely picking up that hatred. In ten years, will he be considered a lame duck president? Or worse? Or simply a man who did everything he could to turn the tides of America's downfall (not an easy task).

Obviously we won't know till then, but do you think Obama will be remembered amongst the greats, or simply forgotten, or similar to Carter (remembered for the wrong reasons)

1st 'Black' President of the United States of America.

John Hanson was the third President of the Confederation Congress behind Samuel Huntington and Thomas McKeon.

......and he wasn't 'Black'.

He'll be remembered for his despotic rule and nepotism.

Hopefully he will be remembered as the hypocritical peace prize winning bomber who led our corporations to the promised land of record profits as he jailed every whisleblower he could and dropped more explosives than food on the poor starving children of the world :salute:

Any future history on Obama will take into account the tremendous hurdles he faced, just like every other minority who was the 1st whatever. Considering that it wall most likely be written in an era where we've had a woman president and all other sorts of 1st's, I wouldnt get my hopes up for him getting shat on.

All that aside, he'll be remembered like Carter. Our next President (Hillary Rodham Clinton) is much more hawkish and a secret conservative, so I'd imagine history will view Obama as a Democratic outlier, like Carter, on the timeline of American Imperial Aggression. No amount of drone strikes or the fact he caught Osama will change this impression of him unless he launches a war. Cant be a strong President without a new military intervention.

The Republicans will paint him as a socialist, soft, and destructive to "American values".

Democrats will paint him as a victim, and a prisoner to a situation not under his control. They will claim that he was merely a helpless observer who tried his best.

Both sides will ignore the truth. Don't even get me started.

Mediocre, somewhat hypocritical president that was forced to deal with one of the most uncooperative Congresses in history. But that said I think the ACA will be considered more good than bad overall - it's at least a step closer to true socialized medicine.

This post tells me more about YOU than it does about Obama's effectiveness as a leader or how he'll be viewed relative to other Presidents.

Why exactly would Obama want to use his office like a dictatorship and what makes you think Congress and the Senate would rubber-stamp anything other than a military intervention?
