I like/liked Hassan, but I think fans overrate him.

If you mean as a wrestler, yes, he wasn't that good yet, but at that time they were already starting to phase out being good in the ring as something that mattered.

The character was gold and Vince backed down on it (though it was still his fault for greenlighting that stupid masked men thing). Can't blame Hassan for not wanting to deal with an industry that won't even ride for you at all when you do everything right. :smh:

Early Hassan was GOAT, but eventually he just became another standard anti-American heel. Wasn't he punking Daivari towards the end of that run?

But his debut as a nearly fully assimilated American Muslim who was speaking out against racism and prejudiced was revolutionary. He was telling the truth Americans didn't want to hear (and still don't). But they booked themselves into a corner with that because how would faces look feuding with someone who just wanted to be an American and not profiled?
