I agree with OP here

I see you're repping NOVA. Where do you go to college?
I was at ODU last year but didn't really like it much and wasn't worth the cost so I am doing some classes at NVCC right now. looking to go to GMU by the start of next year.. You go to school in NOVA?

That is the thing though. I don't fault you for not saying anything, afterall, he is an old-head, and they will be damned if some young'n tries to tell them they are wrong. On the other hand, your objective when you debate with others should not be to change their minds, but to mindfully show them the other side of their argument.

If they ignore it, fine, fukk em. But if they are a normal, rational, level-headed person, what you can say may color their opinion in the future when a particular subject comes up. You can give them a potentially game-changing perspective, and it allows them to analyze their own thoughts with a different lens.
I feel you man.. I know I should have said something but at the time I wasn't thinking clearly. I probably wouldn't have been able to articulate myself the way I wanted to because of how floored I was.

I'm at JMU. I hate it here

:what:

Today, in my philosophy class my professor was going on one of his usual meaningless rants about things completely unrelated to the class.. I was zoning in and out of sleep until I heard him mention Ferguson. Mind you, my professor is a 65 year old cac military veteran so I already assumed what his opinion was going to be but I never thought he was going to be so blatant with it.

He was generally speaking about how first reports are usually inaccurate and then began mentioning how Ferguson is a perfect example of that. I'm paraphrasing here but he said "african americans" were up in arms without even knowing the full story, he said reports came out later that Michael Brown had gun powder on his fingers which proves he was in close proximity with the cop, that he had weed in his system which altered his mind state and could have justified the six gun shots (absolutely ridiculous argument), and then said that even african american witnesses said that Michael Brown did not have his hands up. He then said that the grand jury should order a no bill but because they are afraid of riots they will not. He then, I'm being deadass serious here, said:

"Remember that Tyrone case in Florida? Everyone was ready to crucify Zimmerman but we later found out the facts and that Tyrone bashed his head on the concrete, I'm telling you folks first reports are generally always wrong."

Me and the other four black dudes in the class just looked at each other with a combination of

:stopitslime::dwillhuh::dahell:

Why do teachers/professors feel as if they have a right to say whatever they please?

aside from looking incredulous, I hope y'all either blacked the fukk out on him or just walked out of class and withdrew without failing. He can remember Zimmerman's name but Trayvon is too hard to pronounce/remember? Call him Professor CAC and see the look on his face as he asks you to explain what that shyt means

Nah, he didn't have his keyboard with him then.
:gladbron:shots fired

I knew I was going to be questioned on why I didn't say anything which is why I was hesitant on making this thread.. I just felt at the time it would be a pointless endeavor. The guy is not going to change his opinion no matter what facts I presented, he obviously didn't even care enough to remember Trayvon's name so no matter what I said it would go in one ear and out the other. I'm paying thousands of dollars for my classes and can't afford to fail. I know I should have said something and trust me I'm still pissed I didn't but at the time I just did not feel like it would be amount to much.

:salute:for not letting ur emotions get the best of you, experience will tell never to challenge/eembarrass people who hold power in public, if u got an issue discuss it with them on a one-on-one basis or just send an email with all the facts. if they are civil they will re-visit that topic infront of the class/group, if they dont..well u got ur answer ( wateva point you have as a black undergraduate is useless to a cac expert in a subject they have researched for decades)

*sending an email may get ur name on the professor's uppity nikka list (blacklist)
