Too talented as an actor for his own good. He was so convincing in that role that he was doomed to peak at midcard level and eventually fizzle out, because that character could never stick at the main event level. Being a great worker wasn't gonna overcome that.

Probably didn't have the charisma or look to do much better anyway, but putting in Oscar-worthy performances playing the role of a moron definitely put a ceiling over his head.
