thats cause others devs half-ass it just for profits. the criticism of the diminishing returns crowd was not about developers not trying to push hardware to the limit but rather that the hardware would not allow anymore substantial increases in graphics.

That's because Sony uses the ICE team for engine development for all of the studios. In the past, Microsoft has used Rare for that very same thing as their is Rare technology used with Forza for example. Another thing is that Sony builds engines from the ground up each Gen. Microsoft is cheap and they don't. Gears used ue3, a multi platform engine. Halo used stuff from the og Xbox. I mean, it's not as bad as yukes and using stuff from the ps2 for virtually everything but Sony has been the best of the platform holders about pushing tech. Then again, I'm not surprised, they are a preeminent technology company

Your knowledge doesn't always match your enthusiasm on this stuff, this is one of those times. You and I are Xbox fans so I appreciate the stuff you post but in this gen, as far as power, PS4 stands far above the XB1. XB1 is competent, PS4 is great, forward thinking tech. It's one thing to stan, another to fraudulently lie. When you look at Microsoft, who do we think about as powerhouse graphics from first party studios? Rare? Recently 343 studios and Playground Games. That is where it largely begins and end. Sony? Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Guerilla and Quantic Dream for starters.

Naughty Dog is home to the ICE Team, one of Sony’s World Wide Studios central technology groups. The ICE Team focuses on creating core graphics technologies used by all PlayStation developers. The ICE Team has been involved with the development of the PlayStation®4 since its inception, including hardware design, graphics libraries, performance analysis tools, and developer support (hardware evangelism).



Role



As a Graphics Programmer on the ICE Team, you will be working on core graphics technologies for the PS4 that will be used in every shipped title.

Microsoft has their own brand of ninjas with the Direct X team and so far but it is moreso for using coding to the metal with the Direct X API. However, when it comes to rendering pipelines and so forth, Sony stands over Microsoft with that. Where is Microsoft's Molina like exhibition? Other graphic showcases?

Crackdown - Renderware by Criterion
Forza 2 -4 - Built on Forza 1 engine
Shadowrun - Source One Engine by Valve
Halo 3 - Built on Halo 2 engine
Halo 4 - Highly customized and built of top of Halo ODST engine
Mass Effect 1 - Unreal Engine 3 by Epic
Lost Odyssey - Unreal Engine 3 by Epic
Too Human - Unreal Engine 3 by Epic
Fable - Proprietory but obviously not good because they went to Unreal Engine 3 by Epic for Fable: The Journey and UE3 for Fable Legends on XB1
Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts - Built from Viva Pinata engine (That's normal for studios though as Viva Pinata was built from some OG Xbox tech but this was largely new.)
Alan Wake - The Alan Wake engine, built ground up for that game
Forza Horizon - Highly customized engine from Forza 4.

Now, of all of these games, only a few from Microsoft proper are considered good looking games. Forza 4, because they got three cracks at the hardware, had nowhere but up to go based on Forza 2. Halo 4, because Halo was finally able to hit 720p with 343 at the helm. Damn shame that the flagship game couldn't even run at an HD resolution until it's last hurrah on the console. and Forza Horizon because Playground games have some talented ass people there that knows what they are doing.

How Microsoft let the best graphics developer alive (Corrine Yu) leave 343 studios to go to Naughty Dog is something that I will never understand. She was the main reason for the leap for Halo 4. Again

All Sony games uses major ICE team implementation. That is the difference.

As for sony's studio's. Only Killzone and Uncharted where the heat bringers. Resistance 3 looked good as well (shared assets if we wanna play your angle)
But here is where you trippin. Killzone if sony could do it over again would not have made it
They lost bread on that project. The game is Knack status bruh. It also took a billion years to come out

This gen, RYSE is the best looking next gen game. And Quantum Break looks better than anything at the moment. Fancy closeup cutscenes do not mean shyt. SHOW ME THE MONEY :blessed:

I mean most Xbox exclusives came from 3rd party devs, and How u gon fault gears for using unreal when gears was made by the creaters of unreal engine

And let's keep it g, outside of uncharted and killzone (which isn't a good franchise ) Sony didn't have many great devs that put out crazy graphics, gears graphics always shytted on resistance
