I remember reading about that dude who had a huge boulder fall on his arm while he was hiking. After 4 days he cut off his own hand(had to break it first, he couldn't cut through bone) and walked his ass to safety. He lost an arm, but survived.

How many people could make that choice and go through with it? Probably not a lot.
