I vaguely remember this is in the late 90s and it didn't go over well like they switched back after the all star break could be wrong tho

If I remember correctly, the new ball was made of a composite fiber opposed to the regular leather balls. And while the grip on it was better it would collect small amounts of debris when bounced on the ground and it would accumulate and irritate players hands. I think Steve Nash complained of it cutting his fingers. The panels on it were weird too.
