If ur at least mid-late 20's or older, you already know what I'm talking about.

106th & Park would never have existed if TRL didnt do it so big, first.

Yeah it got old seeing this song Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way - YouTube be number 1 EVERYDAY until they retired it, but truth be told, if YouTube was around in 99-00, this song would be the most viewed video ever. :smugfavre: Instead of some Justin Bieber song.

But if you were a rapper and made it on there, you were going Gold pretty much the next week when ur album dropped.

The way the ppl would be lined up on the street for blocks for a show being shot on the 5th or 6th floor of the MTV building was crazy.

106 in it's prime maybe was a little better if you like urban music artists who weren't pop enough for TRL, but TRL laid the ground work.

Back then if a rapper made the TRL top 5 he was going platinum. I remember the host chick openly stated she was suprised Twista's "Slow Jamz" made the count down and that did numbers.

I can't front, I remember late '03 when Kanye was bout to drop College Dropout an nikka was hoping he wuz gonna do numbers. Fast forward new years and that one chick on TRL had thru the wire for her vid pick. Next thing I kno u couldn't get that video off MTV. Bottom line, if u were a rapper tryin to get major exposure u had to get the MTV cosign
