It was common to be considered great and be crap on the defensive end.
Magic, Bird, Barkely, Nique, Dirk... all crap on the defensive end but still considered great.

It's sad right?
I grew up watching ball during the 90s like some of you other cats here and I remember dudes could play defense back then. It was a badge of honor to play great defense back then just as much as scoring.
Great times.
Its not an excuse, its just reality that you can be a dominant player without having much impact on the defensive end of the court. People that equate defensive/offensive ability regardless of position are way off base
