The Dolphins are discussing a long-term extension with fourth-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill, a source told the South Florida Sun Sentinel, with the "framework being a seven-year contract worth about $105 million (depending on incentives)."

The paper said the general idea is a $15 million annual salary with only the first two years guaranteed.

Miami has three options regarding Tannehill, per the paper. The team can let him play out the last year of his contract at $2.1 million and allow him to hit free agency; pick up his fifth-year option for 2016 at roughly $15 million, money that would be guaranteed in case of injury; or negotiate an extension.

He's come a long way from potentially being benched earlier this season. He's one of the most accurate passers within 10-15 yards. His deep ball accuracy is another story, but he's consistently improved each of his first 3 seasons and had the Dolphins in the playoff race late in the season during a year where most people expected them to have around 4-5 wins. If the Dolphins can get some linebacker help this offseason and a true #1 possession receiver (which Mike Wallace has proven not to be), there's no reason they cant win 10-11 games, especially with Moreno coming back next season

i think it's an alright deal if only the first 2 years are guaranteed. i dont think many fans realize how hard it is to constantly make changes at QBs, you dont want to end up like the browns. if you have a decent-good QB, might as well stick with him as long as your team is good enough to make the playoffs as some success is better than none while you build up the rest of your team.

if andy dalton could get one...everybody can.

sucks when you got a medicore QB, but just gotta deal with him for years because it'll push you even further back if you dump him.

shyt is like a bad marriage.
