How ranked-choice voting works

Broadly speaking, the ranked-choice voting process unfolds as follows for single-winner elections:

  1. Voters rank the candidates for a given office by preference on their ballots.
  2. If a candidate wins an outright majority of first-preference votes (i.e., 50 percent plus one), he or she will be declared the winner.
  3. If, on the other hand, no candidates win an outright majority of first-preference votes, the candidate with the fewest first-preference votes is eliminated.
  4. All first-preference votes for the failed candidate are eliminated, lifting the second-preference choices indicated on those ballots.
  5. A new tally is conducted to determine whether any candidate has won an outright majority of the adjusted voters.
  6. The process is repeated until a candidate wins a majority of votes cast.

Example

Assume that there are four candidates for mayor in a hypothetical city. The table below presents the raw first-preference vote totals for each candidate.

Niqqas know they’d never “win” an election ever again.

The election is only unfair if their guy loses.

I still remember how smug they were in 2016 "he's your president whether you like it or not. He won fair and square. Get over it liberals  "

When their guy gets demolished in 2020 "this was obviously a rigged election! Democrats don't care about democracy! :damn:"

Thats the play book with these people. It's like that kid that would always try to change the rules of the game you're playing so he wins.

They don't want ranked choice voting, they don't want election day as a holiday and they don't want voter ID measures challenged because it means they'll have to be put into a position where it's their policies vs Democrat policies. They'll actually have to try and make a case for how they'll make your life better rather than just trying to scare you with culture war nonsense. They know they've got nothing to offer that's actually popular and that people want.

neither party is crazy about ranked choice

the republicans just counted their eggs before they hatched again - in alaska of all places :dead: imagine if both of these parties lost the ability to be polarizing and dramatic as fukk through their own primaries

I think it's a dumb voting system but any L Sarah Palin takes is good with me.

Also even funnier that they're complaining about popular vote when republicans have won the popular vote once since 2000....
