This man was a true American genius. Got drafted into the army at 17. Went awol to Canada. Almost got jumped by some CACs one of the CACs that saved him was Neil young, they made a group called the Mynah Byrds. They get a deal with Motown. Hating ass Ex manager tells the military that Rick is a draft dodger and he’s sent to the brig for a couple years. I never knew that part of his story.

Rick is one of my favorite artists because of his ability to write for others but still keep a unique Rick James soulful sound.

He doesn’t get enough credit with changing the landscape of American music. He really fought to get black artists on MTV and they ended up putting Michael Jackson on instead of him because Michael was the safer choice.
