Resident Evil 9: Requiem | PS5 XBOX PC | Feb 27th 2026

[Captain Crunch]

Finally beat the game, took 12 hours, used a guide for the mansion and cheated for the safe codes. I was this close to dropping this, because the Grace mansion part was a maze to navigate, and I got tired of ducking zombies.

Thankfully I didn’t drop this, because the game really opens up after the mansion part, and this was a defining title of this generation. Great graphics; great set pieces, great optimization, this was the most “next gen” feeling game I’ve played since beating cyberpunk in 2024.

RE1, 2, 3, Code Veronica and 0 are classic RE games that are definitely worth playing.

Felt like a greatest hits collection

Didn’t really move the story forward that much

Leon sections were fun and fan servicy

After 2 and 4 remake I think I’ve had my fill on this formula. This open Leon sections were kind of a slog

Yeah, I mentioned before this game has quite a few parallels to Metal Gear Solid 4. I enjoyed it a lot.
As great as this game is though, I think in the grand scheme of the series, as far as story goes, it feels skippable in a way.
They really didn't move the story forward, and a lot of themes felt like it was building up to be the end of the series (which it obviously isn't going to be).
It almost feels like a game made to remind you that Resident Evil still exists while they work on the next game with a much more meaningful story.

Yeah, I mentioned before this game has quite a few parallels to Metal Gear Solid 4. I enjoyed it a lot.
As great as this game is though, I think in the grand scheme of the series, as far as story goes, it feels skippable in a way.

It almost feels like a game made to remind you that Resident Evil still exists while they work on the next game with a much more meaningful story.

This story reminds me of rift apart, its like they finally get back to talking about the last plot threads after all the remakes and the subplots of Ethan winters, but they only just kind of remind you, “hey remember these characters and what they were doing 10 years ago?” Then they don’t actually progress anything from the last game.

Leon just kind of felt like a last minute decision because the remakes are so popular now.

I’m hoping the next game tells us where Claire is or just stops with the new one-off characters.

This game probably failed more than any other game in the series at introducing characters.
They 'looked' cool as hell, and definitely started out interesting, but ultimately they don't matter.
This one will definitely stand out as the weaker of the series in terms of story for that.

But anyway, I'm talking in circles at this point. Game is great and that's what matters most. It just isn't perfect, and that's fine.
The story was interesting enough and the gameplay, graphics, environment, etc. was all GOAT tier gaming.
I do just kind of miss the clear consistent threat of Umbrella. Having that singular 'big bad' helps a story feel cohesive. As the series has continued details have gotten complex and a little sloppy with this organization doing that and another organization doing another thing. You get a little bit of Kojima confusion trying to go through the family tree of villains and heroes in this series.

Leon just doing too damn much at this point lol. At some point I felt like I was playing Uncharted especially with that little train sequence later on. I'm currently in the lab area as Grace. Next games we need to get Claire in the action.
