The "cloud" could potentially be used to expand the capability of games to some extent but it's early and most devs are going to be using it for online storage and dedicated servers. That's not particularly special but it does allow for some sense of flexibility.

It is marketing propaganda wholly in of itself. PS4 has 8GB GDDR5 RAM and that is not fluff. This "cloud" mumbo jumbo my opponents speak of has no real world practicality and will not make up for the lack of technical prowess they in fact have.

For the cloud to have a significant impact other than dedicated servers and online storage, there has to be a use case for large amounts of data that needs to be processed but not in a matter of frames. And the result of this has to actually be interesting in the game world. Off the top of my head, I'm struggling to find a really compelling use case though I'm sure they exist.

Question:

How will Gaikai be able to stream entire games, but y'all are saying certain instructions/calculations can't be streamed?

If entire games can be streamed isn't it reasonable to believe that parts of games can be streamed, or am I missing something?

You'll be pretty much playing the game off of the Gaikai servers.

If you're connection is garbage, your feelings will be hurt. I can see them caching the game data to a temp directory on your hard drive as it streams to help lag/latency.

So why can't that be done to process SOME assets of a game? Surley if they can stream entire games, they can stream some extra mountains or NPCs

PS4 gonna have something like that breh.
It's all that is. That whole code on the go with the cloud to save memory is total bs when these nikkas have 8GB of memory or close to it with the xbone :scusthov:

Latency is the biggest hold up but technically it can offload certain processes so that system resources can can be used for other things. , the biggest thing it could do is render static textures and offload certain a.i. it's not going to turn the xb1 into a supercomputer but it can definitely reduce bottlenecking with certain data so those extra resources can focus on other things. Azure does that now for lesser computers. The only thing is microsoft is putting the cart before the horse though because the bandwith overall internet speeds aren't there to support what they want to do on a widespread level but it's definitely capable. To have it optimized it'll be a few years, especially since it's only been around for 3 years. So yeah it's not gonna make it 40x's more powerful than the xbox but from my own experience with it, it's really amazing what it's capable of.
