Respecting your OG....why?

Everybody talks the "respect your OG" talk but when I look at these guys they're usually just bummy and living on the same block where they grew up and telling nikkas how to do dirt and AVOID the law instead of some actual long term instructing like making investments in yourself towards an education or an actual job.

Use my homie for example, dead father and absentee mother and his block old head took him under his wing, he just got 6 months last week

I have met one pretty decent one though in Henry, he runs a BBQ joint but wild shyt still goes on under his watch. He wouldn't stop another brotha gettin robbed if he didn't have to and as a result of a hard street life buddy was cold hearted.

I respect my Original OGs...elders

Grandaddy was a black panther, father and uncles were masons (the actual ones who did food drives for the community and took kids to school) I received a positive message my whole life, that's why when I go around other neighborhoods and I see some ashy old nikka steering kids the wrong way.

Maybe you've had different experiences but so far all these dudes don't offer much other than a handbook explanation of what crime will get you what time

I damn sure have little respect for some of rap's OGs just look where that got us

alot older ppl are fools......ive ran into a few cool ones that were very wise tho....but following old ppls advice can get u fukked because they just tell u to follow the same slueprint from 30 years ago even tho the world is different....u have to adjust to the times

I can respect the fact that they survived a hard life in the streets but I just never see them do anything with that other than train more soldiers for a pointless war.

Fair enough. I don't lend any extra credit to people who did dirt and otherwise stood as a symptom of our problems.

If all your ogs are bums you're probably a bum.

And ogs have different priorities in life so they sometimes look bummy even tho they do big things.

You respect your ogs because they've lived longer than you and can give you insight on shyt that you've yet to experience. Period.

Every time I see an old person I automatically have respect for them because they made it that far. Even if they didn't do shyt with their life at least they survived. Lot of people can't even do that.

I respect those worthy of respect. Just eating, shytting and sleeping for a longer time than I have doesn't mean shyt to me. I respect wise people. Age never comes into it. Life experience is what makes you wise and you can have that while being relatively young and you have alot of old nikkas that havent ever done shyt. nikka 63yrs old doing the same shyt he been doing since he was 14, isnt wise and is not worthy of my respect. Ive argued with people about this before. That being said, if there are wise older generations that have insight of value with this thing called life, you should definitely appreciate it.
