the 'lyrical' set aint been poppin really for damn near a DECADE -- I used to fux with some of that shxt heavy, back when people really were rapping their asses off & being creative. Then that shyt got took over &/or abandoned to a bunch of stale close minded so-called "Real Hip Hoppers,"
while most my previous favorites tried & failed at adjusting to appeal beyond that tardy demographic. Meanwhile it eventually became damn near a taboo to try to Rap talentedly...
But for the first time in a long ass time now, seems like some people are really trying to rap their asses off again. Maybe due to Kendrick's rappin ass breaking the door down? Maybe the internet's letting them find inspiration in each other? Maybe it's just time again, but there seems to be an actual resurgence popping off:
here's a few upcoming young examples that're spitting wildly hwoard:
Joey Bada$$ -- I'd only heard him really go off on that 1 video so far, the few that predated it were significantly weaker. BUT, that one track was amazing, so I held out hope. The mixtape '1999' finally dropped last nite -- that shyt is crack! this 17 Year old Brooklynite & his numerous 'Progressive Era' crew members rap they asses off all over the tape. the shyt's highly executed CRRAAACKK! had to buy a pack of 'Ports & ride around all night playing this shyt back.

Raz -- shytty name, literate thug shyt, with an unorthodox delivery. From Seattle. Intense honesty laid out here, been finding myself quoting a couple things from this guy the last few days.
BLESS / B L S -- amazing ass voice, aint heard someone like this in a MINUTE -- stylistically like early Saafir. Young black kid from L.A. has 2 upcoming projects with his producer Sense under the name THE SHAHMEN. Mostly dark/downtempo type productions so far, but hopefully we'll get to hear him break out solo on some different types a beats.
Haleek Maul -- just 15 years old, lives in Barbados, from Brooklyn. raps his motherfukking soul off on some introspective poetic shyt. Feels lightweight sorta like Based perspective meets Earl Sweatshirt's talent.
there's more, I'll holler in a minute . . .
