I remember a DMC interview from a while back, like... DMC still had the scratchy voice and shyt...

He was saying he was trying to fall back on the rap shyt, and Run, despite appearances, was always Always trying to tweak and perfect his flow... "trying to keep up with these youngsters, man", as DMC put it.

This was a whiiiiile back. Like around the time "Let's Get Married" came out.
