Rick Owens has become a huge deal in hip-hop—especially with artists like Jay Z, Kanye West, A$AP Rocky, and Rick Ross either wearing his designs or name-dropping him in their songs. But, according to a recent AnOther interview, Owens isn't really even familiar with any of them, let alone listens to their music. He must know Rocky, though, right? The Harlem rapper and his wife, Michelle Lamy, did hit up a few galleries in the city together earlier this month.
Anyway, here's what Owens had to say about hip-hop:
I must admit that I'm not that familiar with Jay-Z or Rick Ross or hip-hop in general. I mainly listen to hardcore techno, old disco records and old show tunes. But of course I'm pleased to have a happy client and I think it is nice that they talk about my products. I cannot imagine rejecting any positive response. I don't supply them with my jackets, if that's what you think. They have to go out and buy them. It is a surprise to me that they would even bother, but I guess as our world is getting more and more commercial maybe it has become interesting to them to look into less obvious, more obscure fashion labels. Before, hip-hop used to be all about big luxury label brands like, you know, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci.”

the real funny part is them nikkas try to play it like they friends with these people.

What's wrong with wearing clothes you think is cool though? If Jay wants to spend $2000 on a Rick Owens jacket that looks cool, let him do him. It's not Rick Owens' fault that camel or anybody else decides to rap about his clothing. Rick owens is just a fakkit fashion designer who's in his own world doing his own thing.
So now this old white dude is obligated to listen to rap because rappers like his clothes?
