White supremacy put black people in a very disadvantaged position, this is an undeniable fact.

What I take issue with, is putting FULL blame on racism for "black crime" since there is also "white crime" that exists. I think it's completely ignorant to say removing systemic racism is the ONLY way to address crime, though I do believe addressing the root cause of disproportionate crime is necessary and relevant.

We do ask our communities to do better, and we have to continue to avoid sitting by and excusing acts of violence within the community because of years of oppression.

I hate this narrative of being "forced" to choose a life of crime. It's an easier solution than painful hard labor but it's rarely THE ONLY OPTION. We're so attached to fast money to get out the hood that we can't sometimes make the commitment to taking the long legal route. There's not one cause for crime, similarly there's not one single solution.

The vast majority of policing is not for public safety - its in regard to state economic interest. Cannabis sales, loitering, homelessness, and petty theft from large-scale corporations, as well as non-violent probation violations do not pose any harm to the community. But they are an outsized chunk of why Black men are arrested, jailed, and inprisoned. A "community policing" would work to protect the community and prevent crime that endangers the community - not leverage attacks against the impoverished.

If you don't see the difference between the two kinds of "policing" you may be a lost cause.

Police are supposed to act as deterrents - and the proximity to Whiteness is a literal "bolster" of wealth. It changes things economically, and yes it directly led to an increase in the wealth within the Irish and Italian communities - even with no apparent showing of an increase of involvement in crime.

Being broke is not an excuse to kill a child. But it certainly does explain the social pathology that leads to the shooting. Gun violence correlates with income and family wealth. One is less likely to be involved in gun violence if their schools are well-funded and adequate, their parents are able to have stable housing and careers, the food and environment are non-toxic and supported by local funding, and less hyper-surveillance.


Positive change in economic wealth would deter the vast majority of "street dudes" from being in the streets.

The nuclear family is not that big of an issue - the community and general family are - but none of this detracts from the need for either wealth or communitarian support.
The expropriation of wealth from the Black community is part and parcel of the destruction of the Black community.

Why are black people the only community who are expected to police or own communities, sustain our own economies, etc. We pay taxes like every other citizen. When Irish and Italian immigrants were killing each other in the streets 100 years ago nobody was telling citizens to go to war with the mob. The government created programs that created wealth and the violence ceased.
