Although i dont condone rappers not writing their own lyrics, im not surprised that it happens. These are corporate hit songs being crafted. Alot of these rappers and pop singers are literally puppets. Yall should've peeped game when somebody made that thread about Rihanna's "writing camps" awhile back:sas2:

Rihanna isn't a rapper

Nobody gives a shyt about rhianna writing camp. She not going around claiming to be the best songwriter in the game.
She's a puppet like Drake. This is the game today. Your favorite pop-rapper is a puppet whose songs are being crafted by a team. Keep bringing up "rihanna" and miss that this is an industry-wide technique

I can't remember what the article was called but it was some underground rapper that got signed to a major label. He said his first day in they made him sit in a room with writers and musicians trying to come up with lyrics and melodies. Don't know if anyone can find it but I imagine that's how it is for a lot of people.

Rihanna is a singer and performer.
She interprets written songs in her own way, that's what she does.

Drake is a songwriter, rapper, singer, performer in that order.
He's won an awards saying "The Hal David Starlight Award is an award given yearly to a gifted songwriter. Drake was the recipient in 2011"

IF he doesn't write his songs, that's like finding out that Milli Vanilli weren't actually singing.
However authenticity is not what it once was with all these Britney Spears ass singers with studio engineered voices. Still nothing has been proven to what help he's received, nothing at all says that anyone has actually written anything for him. If you have any type of creative input, you are a co-writer.

Phonzhi why would anybody care about Rihanna writing camps? She's not a rapper and also she never claimed to be the best songwriter either.

Because hiphop and music in general has become increasingly "whored-out" for the dollar. Where are the Stevie Wonders and Prince's? Where are THOSE types of musicians? Who's even asking? Nobody because we dont care. Drake is a perfectly wrapped "image" whos'e been forced down the public's throat as this lyrical and melody-crafting genuis. Drake isn't the only one receiving help Mr.Ocean. Do we really care tho?

Singers have always had song writers. People that can do both successfully are a rare breed.

Most of the Motown songs people know and love were written by a writing team, that doesn't diminish their greatness. Nobody is going to discredit The Temptations because they didn't write Just My Imagination or My Girl, nor should they. Comparing any other genre of music to rap when it comes to song writing is ridiculous.

This has been the game for singers for quite some time, breh. It's not exactly a secret. That's why people always laud singers who are credited as singer-songwriters. That's what got Taylor Swift recognition at first, if I'm not mistaken.

However, in hip-hop, this is generally frowned upon and unless you're honest about not really being a rapper and having ghostwriters it's a shot at your credibility and the fans of hip-hop will struggle to take you seriously. Any proper rapper, those with respect for the genre, wouldn't even attempt to do such a thing in fear of it getting out and having their credibility shaken. You could make the point that there aren't a lot of those but trying to do that by examining another genre is pointless.
