CLEVELAND, Ohio – A federal grand jury handed up an indictment that accused four men of running two schemes that made $2.7 million, prosecutors said Friday.
The nine-count indictment charged Jaylen Harris, 19, of Beachwood; Lavelle Jones, 18, of Warrensville Heights; Devin Rice, 20, of Cleveland; and Hakim Benjamin, 20, of Cleveland Heights.
They are accused of organizing and engaging in two conspiracies: The first involved the theft and sales of high-end cars, while the other focused on robbing carriers for the U.S. Postal Service and stealing mail.

The four have been charged with conspiracy to commit the sale or receipt of stolen vehicles. Rice, Jones and Harris are charged involving the stolen mail.
Harris was also charged with illegal possession of a handgun modified to fire like an automatic weapon. The gun was found in a hotel in February when law enforcement officers executed a search warrant for the men. Authorities also discovered thousands of fake checks, technology to make the fake checks, and keys to stolen high-end vehicles, court records show.
Federal prosecutors in Cleveland said the men are accused of stealing and purchasing Dodge Durangos, Dodge Rams, Dodge Hellcats and other vehicles from car dealerships in Michigan. They are accused of transporting the vehicles to Northeast Ohio to resell.
The men used a device that allowed them to copy information stored on key fobs, then make copies so they could steal the cars.
Rice, Jones and Harris also were charged with organizing and engaging in a conspiracy to rob Postal Service carriers, steal keys to postal collections boxes and grab mail, prosecutors said.

In January, residents in Cleveland reported missing mail, stolen checks, and other valuable items from the blue collection boxes. An arrow key, which is a universal key for mail carriers, was also taken from a postal worker in Euclid.

On Jan. 31, a little over a week after the postal worker was robbed in Euclid, Rice was arrested by authorities after another robbery of postal worker in Shaker Heights. He was in possession of multiple pieces of stolen mail during the arrest, authorities said. Rice told police that he bought the key from a postal worker for $1,000, according to court documents.
Prosecutors said the group also used a specialized computer to make fake checks. They stole resident’s bank account information to access accounts to steal money, or open new ones in their names.
