A woman who claimed she shot a man in self-defense during an armed robbery in Chesterfield now faces charges in the case.
Tanya C. Rodriguez of Dinwiddie faces charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the incident around 5:40 p.m. on Dec. 8 to the 2900 block of Appleford Drive.
Rodriguez initially told officers she went to the Longmeadow neighborhood to meet two men, but then claimed they pulled out a gun and tried to rob her. She claimed she was able to pull out her own gun and shoot one of the men from her car.
The man ran to a neighboring house and a soldier there came out to help him until police arrived. He was taken to VCU Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the thigh.
Police now believe it was Rodriguez and a 17-year-old who were involved in the robbery. Police arrested Rodriguez on Thursday and a 17-year-old on Friday. The teen faces charges of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Rodriguez is being held at Riverside Regional Jail.
Police say the incident was not random and the suspects knew each other.
