Legendary hall-of-famer Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran does not believe Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) would have been a force in his era, when fighters like Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Wilfred Benitez were on top. He says Mayweather would have been "just another guy in the bunch". Duran is not impressed with Mayweather's level of competition, stating that there is no comparison between the top contenders of today and the fighters who ruled from junior welterweight to middleweight 30 years ago. Duran said Mayweather should have a loss on his record from the first fight with Jose Luis Castillo and he scored the fight with Oscar De La Hoya as a draw. "The problem right now is that Mayweather is fighting in an era where there are no real boxers. We knew that kind of style, we were familar with it. We were used to fighting those kind of boxers" Duran stated. Mayweather has made comments in the past where he claims to be "the best fighter in the history of the sport". On September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Mayweather will face WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at a catch-weight of 152-pounds.

Everything he said is correct. What would mayweather be able to do to tommy hearns? :bryan:

So you think he lost to Castillo and actually had a draw with ODH :rudy: Floyd Sr was an ordinary fighter in that era but his son who is way above him would somehow also be an ordinary fighter

If you've actually watched the first Castillo fight, there's no doubt that floyd lost that fight. I thought floyd beat de la hoya though.

I have watched the Castillo fight multiple times(5 times atleast) and Floyd without a doubt won. Castillo made it ugly and tough but Floyd still won a majority of the rounds

Though you can't always rely on punch stats, I remember watching the fight live thinking, "Man, Floyd lost this shyt". They show the punch stats and I'm like :ohhh: Floyd landed 157 punches, 99 of them jabs (which led me to believe his hand was still hurt). Castillo lands 173 power punches to Floyd's 67 I think. Then the scorecards come out and I'm like :childplease:. I have no doubt Arum pulled some strings as Floyd "then" was his cash cow in the making. Floyd indeed was hurt in that fight and he beat Castillo with rather ease in the rematch, but Floyd got a gift in the 1st fight. Not a blowout by any means by Castillo, but seeing the fight several times myself I still give it to Castillo 7 rounds to 5.
