I knew this was going to happen the first time I heard it. I don't really know who to side with because I'm sure as Marvin's family/estate planners recognized the success of the song they were ready to sue. I don't think there's anything wrong with Robin and Pharrell protecting their work tho. It uses similar instrumentation but it's not the same is Got To Give It Up. Our ears aren't used to hearing music with straight up instruments being played throughout an entire song, especially in pop music. Usually I'd be disgusted at the cac but I have to applaud him taking a risk and bringing back that vibe. nobody else in r&b did it, so why should he get crucified for it because he happens to be white? I've been a Thicke fan since The Evolution of Robin Thicke and the man makes true soul music. I'm sure prior to the decision to take legal action they were getting pretty nasty threats from the family and lawyers of Marvin. He's just protecting his product. He's got a #1 album riding off of this single. Why not use risk management in for form of a good old fashioned lawsuit? And more than likely, this lawsuit is just being filed to prove they aren't afraid. It's protection.

The beat sounds a bit similar, but it's far from a sample or the same song.
Throw Marvins family in the bushes, don't try to tie greed the the gods name. They already murked him, now they wanna turn him into a jew.
They're claiming it have the same "feel" as Marvins joint, which is true. But I didn't know you could copyright "feelings".

And leave Funkadelic in the bushes, even George Clinton laughed at that BS.

This right here is what you demand fees for

Pharrell produced it, it's clearly a Pharrell beat. Anyone could hear that it was a Pharrell beat before they heard any Marvin in it. Then after a while I thought well damn, it must be Pharells take on Marvins joint.

It's definitely got the same feel, I'm not a law student/lawyer but I doubt that there is a case for it.

There's no fukking case here. The "feel" is the same...uhhh...I guess. If by that you mean it's some soulful type shyt with bells and real instruments, then sure. Gaye's song >>>>> of course, but I still fukk with Blurred Lines
