Repped everyone who mentioned Spook. Thats real shyt

To be honest that and Sankofa are the only films in this thread I could personally recommend. The mainstream/ big budget films were funded by white people so it's not controlled by our own will.

I believe the biggest mistake I see people make is referring to historical events via filmography.

""If you wanna learn abou, Slavery, Malcolm X, Black Panthers watch the film _________" :mindblown:

People forget how factual events in films are sensationalized and exaggerated to provide entertainment to the viewer. Hence the term BASED on true events

We suffer in the Black Independant film market, shyts a crying shame. Even in the UK we used to have loads of Black shows on TV in the 80s and 90s. We had one in the 00s and now zero. As far as Black British films, its the typical shyt. They're only ever gangsta/ small time crimial bullshyt

Bruh y'all have to watch this movie "Quilombo" (1984)...it used to be on Netflix but now on YouTube. Its amazing IMO takes place in Brazil.

"Palmares is a 17th-century quilombo, a settlement of escaped slaves in northeast Brazil. In 1650, plantation slaves revolt and head for the mountains where they find others led by the aged seer, Acotirene. She anoints one who becomes Ganga Zumba, a legendary king."

Touki Bouki by Sengalese film director Mambety.

Arthouse road film classic that's a poetic meditation on postcolonialism, individuality, and heritage. Ending is GOAT.

The scenes in this film flow like a poem with a lot of symbolism and dream-likeness.

Look for the torrent.
