The question of who is better made me think

I still wouldn't say I have decided.

My point is: this isn't some kind of blow out. This might even be a good time to pull up some records... really look at it

Its certainly CLOSE

For him to act like its a no brainer is wack
Come the fukk on lol

This is George Mikan going up against a prime Shaq. Kane had his run but come the fukk on. That thread would get ugly for Kane without stipulations.

He said he hates that people act like just because someone is influenced by someone that they can't be better
I like Royce and he's not exactly wrong, but I still think it's a little bit :picard: to word it the way he did.

That was disrespectful by Royce. And while yes, Jay is better than Kane, the fact of the matter is he SHOULD be at this point. Jays career is unusual - he was actually trying to get a record deal in Kanes heyday, could not get signed, and hit the streets (I have always said, the best thing to happen to Jay was that he was told no in the late 80's, early 90's). There is video on the net of Jay rapping at the intermission of a Kane concert. Now I would hope Royce understands this - '88/'89 Jay-Z ain't better than '88/'89 Kane! The advantage Jay had was he saw the Kanes, Rakims, G-Raps, and then the next era of the early 90's (Redman, Grand Puba, etc) and then came out in the mid 90's. Now, he has seen a gang of great MC's, and he knows he has to take it to another level. So comparing them is really unfair.

If you are an elite MC, by rule you SHOULD be better than the elite MC's of a previous era. Rap is often compared to sports. I think the dunking is a good example. The fact is Zach Levine and Aaron Gordon are doing significantly better dunks than Jordan, Dominique, and even Vince Carter did. But they should. They've studied those dudes and added new shyt. But you wouldn't say, oh MJ couldn't outdunk a picture of Zach Levine. That just sounds stupid.

Very well said. It's not a direct comparison, but in any sport it's understood that the game evolves, and so do the players and the strategies. I teach/coach Jiujitsu and the sport now is so much deeper and the players are so much stronger than they were even 10 years ago, let alone 20+ years ago. Even a more serious 5-7 year hobbyist would probably give an old school black belt some big problems if they aren't being staying sharp. That being said, most of the athletes don't vocally talk about how much better they are than the top guys from decades ago. Everyone sort of knows it, but most people don't say it.

Like I said, it's not a 1 to 1 comparison, and I know music is different. But since there's a competitive aspect to being an emcee, I just thought I'd throw the sport analogy out there.

could have said it in a way that didn't sound so disrespectful

Yeah I don't necessarily disagree and I might even say it the same way he said it lol

But I'm me and he's Royce.. You'd hear something like that in a barbershop and nikkas would laugh and argue. But because of who he is dudes gonna catch serious feelings...

Now why would anyone go and disrespect a cool and legendary brother like Kane. Put some respeck on his name if you are mentioning him. :scust:

Jay might be a better rapper but Kane was dope enough to get him on a few rounds, hell even Nicki could do that. The only problem is that Jays prime been like from 96 to 2021, Kane said fukk rap before Jay’s prime even started. So it’s unnecessary to even have such a discussion.

Anyways always interesting to see Nas stans flocking Jay-z threads in the exact same way they do Nas threads with the opposite feelings :mjlol:

Says the dikkhead that thinks Jay's prime from 96-21

It is, for different reasons. Skills, hits, popularity, concerts, reviews, awards, a mix of all and on. And no one seen to agree on when his peak was. Therefore one might as well just say his whole career.

But I don’t know what that has to do with anything, I’ve never entered a Nas thread like you and your people enter and create threads about Jay. Nas to me is like Big, Pac and any other great rapper in relation to Jay - except that he beefed with Jay for a year some decades ago. Certain Nas stans like yourself seem to suffer from a severe ptsd from those 12-13 months :yeshrug:
