NBA Sources: Rudy Gay heads to Toronto - ESPN

The Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors have agreed in principle on a trade that will send leading scorer Rudy Gay to the Raptors, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.

SportsNation: NBA three-way trade
Which team gets the best of the three-way trade that sends Rudy Gay to Toronto, Jose Calderon to Detroit and Tayshaun Prince to Memphis? Discuss and vote!

Sources told ESPN.com the Grizzlies will acquire forward Ed Davis and veteran guard Jose Calderon from the Raptors and then move Calderon to a third team to ultimately make this a three-team deal.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Pistons have agreed to send Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye to the Grizzlies to acquire Calderon as part of the trade.

Memphis, sources said, is also expected to receive a second-round pick from Toronto as part of the deal.

The Raptors, sources said, are expected to take on Grizzlies reserve center Hamed Haddadi in addition to Gay.

The Dallas Mavericks, sources say, were also interested in acquiring Calderon but were not prepared to surrender swingman Vince Carter, whom Memphis coveted to help fill the void created by Gay's departure.

So who are the Grizzlies gonna start at the small forward position if they make this trade?

Any deal that involves Ed Davis is no deal that I'm a fan of. He's been among our most consistent players this year and at 23 is only getting better. And we have him for another year past this season at a very good salary.

And as much as I may not always be a fan of dude, Jose Calderon has been balling his ass off lately and providing great leadership. He's among the main reasons this team has won as many games as it has so far this year. Moving him, and putting it all on Kyle Lowry, feels like something we'll look back on with regret (and this is coming from someone who, at the start of the year, wanted Jose gone)

:ehh:

Good move by the Raptors

No its not its a terrible move for them...You give up an up and coming PF and acquire a terrible contract for a player who isnt an allstar who doesnt make your team much better...They have enough bad underperforming contracts as is.....

I disagree on Calderon...I'll never get the hype for him in this city, they won a few more than they lost since goin 4-19 and it has ALOT more to do than him...I wont miss him at all when hes goes but Edward is one guy i dont want to see moved right now unless were getting a bonified all star which Gay is not....

Jose gives it his all everytime he's on the court and seems to actually want to play in Toronto. He hits clutch shots.

Ideally, he's a back-up PG who can step in when necessary, and in that role, he's probably overpaid, but

Arthur isn't a bad pickup if they're getting him back with Gay though

Its nice that he likes it here and gives it his "all" as if thats some medal of achievement but he just isnt that good of a PG and is too much of a liability defensively for this team...

Fans get fooled by the 11 assist games when we lose or beat Orlando and forget about all the games he gets killed by good teams with great PGs...
Hes a an all time bad defender, his offense is very limited outside of sticking wide open jumpers which are GIVEN to him, even his ability to run a team is overrated to me...Guy dribbles out a shot clock then either heaves up a 3 or dumps a pass to whoevers open on the wing...

I see him late clock running screen roll for Amir or Gray to take long jumpers, stuff like that always makes me :snoop:

They need the depth, and I think Rudy Gay is a fundamentally flawed player.

But I might be demanding Ross. Davis/Ross would get it done for me.
