Around Thanksgiving of 2012, i was in Target with my mom picking up stuff for the holiday.

When I walked in, I grabbed a roll of mentos and starting eating them. Cart was packed so I had things in my hand.

Phone rang(I had applied to about 20 jobs on craigslist since I was laid off a month earlier), so I put the mentos in my pocket without thinking & grab the phone.

I get off the phone about 2 mins later a security guard stops me and asks if I paid for that mentos in my pocket

I then realized what I did & told him no & that I had planned on paying for it when I got to the register.

Dude then proceeds to tell me I have to go with him to the managers office..I should have just walked out the store, but I went anyway.

Once I walk in, he walks out and 30-45 seconds later, 2 damn officers show up.....AND CUFF ME...OVER SOME DAMN MENTOS!!!! $1.25 breh.

Walked me from the back of the store out the front door in cuffs..in front of everyone. People looking at me with disgust in their eyes as if I'm the scum of society.. Not only that, the officers would not let me give my car keys to my mom in order for her to get home...

I went into Central Bookings Friday night & got out Sunday morning.

In the end, I get hit with a petty larceny charge since "by law" I was shoplifting a product by putting it in my pocket. It sucks since I now have to put down that I have a criminal charge on job applications & we all know how that goes...

I often think about going in that store & beating that man into a bloody pulp. I'm in the process of getting it knocked down from a misdemeanor to a violation but NY makes it very very difficult.

shoulda just put the mentos down and walked out breh. as a security guard, i can tell u we dont have the right to detain anybody. we dont have peace officer status in ny. only loss prevention officers with peace officer status can detain u if they show u their peace officer badge.

but yea tough break. i got accused of stealing before when i was a kid so i never open up shyt in a store until its paid for.

wtf I thought you had to leave the store with the item in order for the guard to even approach?
