i always wondered if a case could be made that kurtis was even better at producing than rapping.

Yeah he was a much better producer than rapper and he was gifted at crafting good songs from 80-86. Dude was a cornball on the mic but I enjoyed a lot of his songs. I was salty as a kid when everyone(in the film) was jockin him as the (self proclaimed) King of Rap in Krush Groove.
Everything fell off a cliff in 88 when he released this song. The song is so bad that it's good. The video is pretty much like a In Living Color parody.
