Earlier today, 50 Cent took to his social channels to remind everybody that Power is the best thing on television. With all the hype surrounding Game Of Thrones, the star also told everybody that the upcoming season of the show would be better than GoT. Considering how different both programs are, it seemed a little odd to compare them. It's like comparing apples to oranges... However, now that we've learned that Power will be finishing off their longstanding drama this season, the juxtaposition makes a little bit more sense.

As reported by Variety, the series created by Courtney A. Kemp will be ending this year after its sixth season airs on Starz. The season is set to premiere on August 25 with 50 Cent making his directorial debut in the third episode. Kemp issued the following statement:

"We will follow some of your beloved ‘Power’ characters beyond the scope of the initial series. But we will play with your expectations of which characters, where, and the master timeline of it all, creating a ‘Power’ universe as unpredictable as the original."

With the success of the show becoming evident over the last few years, a decision may have been made to create a few spin-offs to dive deeper into specific characters and their storylines. Teasing that further was the director of programming at Starz, Carmi Zlotnik, who said, "Season 6 brings us to the end of what we know is just the first chapter of the ’Power’ story. However, as one chapter comes to an end, another will begin. Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent have created a world rich with complex and dynamic characters and there are a number of stories we plan to tell as we continue to explore and expand the ‘Power’ universe."

50 Cent adds that the show is far from over, noting that this is truly just the beginning for himself, Kemp and Power.

Starz will end its most watched drama series Power with the show's upcoming sixth season, which launches in August, the network announced Thursday.

The series will finish with a 15-episode sixth season debuting Aug. 25, the network said. Power, which is executive produced by Courtney Kemp and Curtis “50-Cent” Jackson, is the second most-watched original drama series on premium cable networks behind Game Of Thrones, and the number one rated show among African-American viewers, according to Starz.

Starz president of programming Carmi Zlotnik in a statement hinted about potential Power spinoffs in the near future.

“Season six brings us to the end of what we know is just the first chapter of the Power story. However, as one chapter comes to an end, another will begin,” said Zlotnik. “Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent have created a world rich with complex and dynamic characters and there are a number of stories we plan to tell as we continue to explore and expand the Power universe.”

The upcoming season will mark the directorial debut of Jackson, as well as the return of director Anthony Hemingway (The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story), who helmed the first two episodes of the series when it debuted in 2014 and will helm the show’s finale, according to Starz.

The series stars Omari Hardwick, Lela Loren, Naturi Naughton, Joseph Sikora, Rotimi, Alani “La La” Anthony, Jerry Ferrara, Shane Johnson, Michael Rainey Jr. and Larenz Tate

The end of the road for Starz's Power has arrived.

The premium cable network announced Thursday that the upcoming sixth seasonwould be Power's last. The final season will return Aug. 25 for a supersized farewell consisting of 15 episodes (up from its standard run of 10). Meanwhile, Power creator and showrunner Courtney A. Kemp is prepping potential spinoffs of the franchise under her most recent overall deal with Starz corporate parent Lionsgate TV.

"Season six brings us to the end of what we know is just the first chapter of the Power story. However, as one chapter comes to an end, another will begin," Starz programming president Carmi Zlotnik said. "Courtney Kemp and 50 Cent have created a world rich with complex and dynamic characters, and there are a number of stories we plan to tell as we continue to explore and expand the Power universe."

Power ranks as Starz's most watched original series since it launched in 2014. The series, a two-time NAACP Image Award winner, averaged 10 million multiplatform viewers in its fifth season last year. The drama starring Omari Hardwick airs in more than 120 countries around the world.

Season six will feature the directorial debut of exec producer Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, who will helm the third installment. Anthony Hemingway — who directed the first two episodes of the series — will return to helm the series finale.

"The last five seasons of Power have been an incredible ride for me and all of our supportive fans. We are far from over, and I am excited to bring you more from the Power brand," Jackson said. "I am proud that I was able to put a lasting stamp on this chapter with my directorial debut in an episode that features one of the wildest scenes ever on the show."

Starz's scripted roster includes Outlander, Vida, Sweetbitter, The Rook, The Spanish Princess, Now Apocalypse and American Gods, among others.

The push to build a franchise out of Power arrives as broadcast, cable and streaming outlets alike look to proven IP in a bid to cut through a cluttered landscape expected to top 500 scripted originals in 2019.

Power becomes the latest high-profile, network-defining series to end in 2019, joining HBO's Game of Thrones, Showtime's Homeland, CBS' Big Bang Theory, Netflix's Orange Is the New Black and scores of others.
