Rutgers cornerback Darian Dailey was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with robbery with a firearm. Dailey, 19, and another man are being held on $150,000 bond at the Manatee County Jail on the felony robbery charge.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune provided an account of the incident, according to Sarasota County deputies:
Shortly before 2 a.m. today, a Sarasota man rode a bicycle in the 1600 block of University Parkway. Two black males in a vehicle stopped and confronted him with a handgun. The black males demanded money and left in the vehicle. The uninjured victim gave deputies the tag information, which deputies passed on to area law enforcement agencies.
Manatee County deputies reportedly located the vehicle and two suspects, 19-year-old Darian J. Dailey of Bradenton and 20-year-old Trazelle A. Johnson of Sarasota. The victim reportedly positively identified the suspects.
Dailey, who redshirted last season, was listed as a starting cornerback on the depth chart released before spring practice. A two-star prospect from Bradenton, Fla., the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Dailey was in line to potentially play a major role in the secondary this season.
Coach Kyle Flood released the following statement on Dailey's arrest: "We are aware of the situation and are gathering facts. Once those facts are gathered, we will take the appropriate action."
