S.1083 - A bill to address the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865 and to establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery, its subsequent d jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African-Americans, to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.

----

As of 04/11/2019 text has not been received for S.1083 - A bill to address the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States and the 13 American colonies between 1619 and 1865 and to establish a commission to study and consider a national apology and proposal for reparations for the institution of slavery, its subsequent d jure and de facto racial and economic discrimination against African-Americans, and the impact of these forces on living African-Americans, to make recommendations to the Congress on appropriate remedies, and for other purposes.

Bills are generally sent to the Library of Congress from GPO, the Government Publishing Office, a day or two after they are introduced on the floor of the House or Senate. Delays can occur when there are a large number of bills to prepare or when a very large bill has to be printed.

Bill is pointless. The country is going to overcorrect in the next election and Progressives are the wave. He should go straight for the jugular and push a bill that will actually deliver reparations, not a goddamn commission to study how it could be done.

The commission will get created, then get defunded 2022. But in the meantime, he'll have the AADOS vote in the primaries.

This is political theater.

The bill needs to happen. I like H.R. 40 wording better -- but this bill is in the process of being written. So, we have to continue to monitor and ask to be apart of the formation. But, it needs to have a deadline and a required funding and immediate action on the findings.

I don't think he will have our vote -- not with just a study bill. No one will. Reparations must happen.

So the bill needs to happen but if it came down to Corey Booker vs Trump, he wouldn't have your vote? Why?

I need confirmation on reparations. More than just a study bill. While I applaud him and the others who have supported the H.R. 40 and have now co-sponsored it -- this is a damn shame it took this for them to do just this.

Right now, I don't know who I"m voting for -- but I am voting on issues that I care about - and affect my ADOS community as a whole.

only reason to vote for a centrist or corporate democrat is to minimize damage as much as possible.

:hubie:even tho Obama pretty much neutered Occupy Wall street, allowed dakota pipeline protesters to be tear gassed and beaten, and downplayed the effects of police brutality and the fallout of Baltimore Uprisings, the point still stands

And that’s what I’m afraid of. Empty rhetoric is enough for the average rank and file black person to cast a ballot for this punk. The ones who aren’t politically inept need to help push a “nothing intangible” message to our associates and loved ones.
Or else we’ll end up with another 8 years of pretty speeches and family portraits with high production values (barry)

You were one of the strongest proponents of a hr 40 and creating a commission to work out the details. Now you’re saying you wouldn’t support someone who is trying to bring that to fruition. What’s the strategy? Do you no longer support hr40? What changed?

I still am. I support Cory's too. But, a bill for a study does not mean you should get my vote for President. A study does not mean reparations.
