(Lowkey :flabbynsick: thread based on @Gizmo_Duck revealing he has the gaming experience of a 12 year old child)

What are some "canon events" when it comes to your memories of gaming?
(I have a ton that come to mind but I'll try to stick with the ones that stand out the most in my mind)
  • Stacking Sonic games in the Sonic and Knuckles cartridge and playing the different versions
  • WCW Nitro and FF7 were the first PlayStation games I ever played. At the time, we had no idea you needed a memory card. I played FF7 all the way until you leave Midgar and turned off the game. My soul was crushed when I realized the games didn't save internally and you needed to buy a memory card.
  • Playing Mario 64 at a Toys R Us kiosk is a major memory for me. I couldn't believe the graphics at the time and getting a turn at one of those kiosks was special for two reasons: 1) You hardly ever found it unoccupied. 2) My parents would typically want to be in and out of the store. Sticking around for longer than a couple minutes was a luxury.
  • Tekken 3 and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 were THE games to play at the arcade. (Shout out to arcades with actual fighting games in them while I'm at it). We use to hold our place in line by putting a quarter up on the deck. There used to be 5 or 6 quarters lined up at all times.
  • Demo Discs- I played the Underground JamPack disc that had Spyro and Metal Gear Solid NON-STOP. A core life memory for me was falling asleep passed 2am from playing the Metal Gear Solid demo. I woke up and kept playing the game.
Where the rest of the old heads at?
I know @MeachTheMonster @Rekkapryde and a bunch more old heads that got kids have some fond gaming memories.
Shoot, most the Arcadium OGs in here been posting for since forever. We all old at this point. :pachaha:

Going in blockbuster and hiding the in stock game card for a game i want until i can convince my parents to take me to get it.

Stealing demo discs outa the gaming mags when i went to the grocery store with my mom.

Them fukkin dogs jumping through the window in RE1

Dreamcast released on my birthday 9/9/99 and i cashed in my life savings at the time(lego bucket my parents had been filling up with change since i was born) to buy it. Probably spent like 12 hours wrapping pennie’s so i could take them to the bank.:mjlol:

Asking for the game with the guy with the huge sword on the front(having no idea about any FF games before hand) and falling in love with one of my favorite games and genre of games in my entire life.

Beating the fukk outa the controller playing those olympics games passing the sticks back and forth to see who can get the best time.

In highschool madden got serious. Used to play for money in the back of the barbershop. Used to buy the strategy guides and practice that shyt like my life depended on it. Spent more time playing/practicing madden than i did giving a fukk about school.

White boy lan parties to force Halo CE online play

Cut school to stand outside and get an OG Xbox on launch day. My parents thought i was at school till the fukkin news pulls up and puts us on tv for standing outside best buy all morning. I was in a tech class so my teacher was cool about it he let me bring up to class and we got to play it on the big projector in front of the class.

Trading in my entire gaming life to gamestop so i could buy tickets for prom/graduation/Cedar point :sadcam:

I’ll probably think of more later. Good thread :ehh:

Renting Ninja Crusaders on accident after the homie at school told me about Ninja Gaiden (might have been NG2).

I was at school asking him "YO why didn't you tell me you can morph into Tigers and shyt"

Folks was looking at me confused as hell.

My entire video gaming history. Few personal ancedotes. On some dear diary sounding shyt. No bullet points, so shyt may be wordy.

My uncle having Pong and me thinking it was the most fun shyt ever. But hell, before that I was used to playing around outside with dirt and sticks.

atari 2600 on a black and white TV with a cracked screen. Switching it to the TV in the living room with my mom allowed it. PacMan and Adventure got the most play.

Asking for a nintendo for christmas, and watching my cousin get it. I got a 7800 and was happy as shyt, still didnt and dont care to this day that it basically played the same thing as the 2600. Pitfall, Combat and Yar's Revenge got the most play. A shyt ton of games came and went, thanks to a pawn shop in a town about an hour away.

Asking for a Super Nintendo when they came out.... and my cousin got it. I got their used Nintendo. I started to notice a pattern..... A few other family members got Sega Genesis. I remember going to their houses and them being zomg wow'ed by Sonic and the like, but by that time I had started becoming jaded by life. Nothing was fun fun, it was just overstimulation for an overly intelligent yet new experience starved mind. Mississippi Delta will do that for you. I played a shyt ton of Nintendo games thanks to that pawn shop. Even though I was playing, I was really more into reading the game magazines (EGM) and watching review shows way early on saturdays (I cant think of the name of the shows, even though I can see the intros and hear the themes).

Turbografix 16. The first video games system where the graphics and sound made me say holy shyt. I got a CD with gameplay from Lords of Thunder on it, I mustve watched that shyt a billion times. This was eclipsed by Neo Geo. When the christmas catalogues came out and I saw the prices? Nah, wasnt even a wish.

Saw Street Fighter 2 for the first time at a Pizza Hut. I had never really seen an arcade game in real life before that. It had... a profound effect on me. And my allowance for that month. I blew it allllllllllllllll

Everybody getting Playstations and N64s, and Im playing a used super nintendo. At least the games were cheap at that pawn shop. And I was more of a regular by this point. RPG's had a hold on me. Fantasy novels you were a part of. FF3/6 was the best thing I ever played. Until CronoTrigger.

Went to college and found grown ass folks of all races and types having big ass game playing parties for money. Goons, academics, white folks, black folks, asians, indians, mexicans, squares, jocks, it didnt matter. Had never seen anything like it. Also experienced the whole dorm playing alanis morissette and singing it in the mornings when the video came on TV. With the doors open. This was really my first time seeing that different people can co-exist if they enjoy the same "different" thing.

Went up north, went to jail, went back to mississippi, copped a playstation from that pawn shop. Sunk HELLA hours into Final Fantasy Tactics and Street Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo.

Moved and started hanging out with white folks with similar interests. Hella money floating around. Weed, PS2's, XBoxs, Dreamcasts, GameCubes, 70 inch TVs and surround sound. Halo, Soul Calibur, Tiger Woods Golf, Timesplitters, Max Payne 2, Animal Crossing. First place I lived where everything I loved doing was close by and I had money to indulge and people to enjoy it with. Fun times. Feels like it lasted juust long enough for me to still miss it.

Lost all of that, and missed the PS3/X360 era in its entirety.

Past that point, I slowed down on gaming a LOT. Currently rocking a used PS4, my toaster of a computer and whatever I wanna emulate.

dassit.

The laura croft nude code was the first viral gaming myth. Everybody claimed to have saw it, but nobody could reproduce it.

Spent countless hours doing dumb shyt in that mansion trying to trigger it :wow:
No. Sheng Long had long proceeded that.

I'll post mine later.
